A. Lange & Söhne Lange 1 Daymatic Tokyo Boutique Birthday Edition

When it comes to limited editions by A. Lange & Söhne, you know it’s going to be rare, you know it is not a common trick used by the brand and you know it will end up being highly collectable. If, in addition to that, the watch looks as beautiful as the one we have today, what not to love… 10 years ago, the Saxon brand opened its Ginza-based boutique, in the heart of the world’s largest city: Tokyo. The A. Lange & Söhne 1815 Chronograph in Pink Gold

The A. Lange & Söhne 1815 Chronograph is far from being a new watch. Indeed, even if it was updated in 2015 with a new dial that actually goes back to (almost) the original design of this watch, it is a well-known and well-established member of the collection. New animations were introduced at the SIHH 2018 and the 1815 Chronograph is now available in pink gold. A good enough reason to take a look back at this superb chronograph – and its stunning movement.

A. Lange & Söhne Saxonia Outsize Date (SIHH 2018)

To me, one of the true marks of a great watch manufacturer is the ability to make interesting and desirable timepieces across a range of price points. Unfortunately, few brands seem to be able to achieve this with any consistency. There are exceptions of course, and A. Lange & Söhne is most certainly one of them. Proving my point is the new Saxonia Outsize Date, which was officially launched last month at SIHH 2018. We managed to spend a bit of hands-on time with the watch and can confirm it is as nice on the wrist as it looks in the photos.

The A. Lange & Söhne Triple Split – or the Triple “Wow Effect”

In the watchmaking world, there is the chronograph complication – in itself a complex type of movement that is hard to develop and to assemble. Then, there is the flyback chronograph, allowing for an instant reset-start of the timing session. And for years, right at the top of the food chain was the Split Seconds or rattrapante chronograph – the ultimate version of the stopwatch. That was the status quo until A. Lange & Söhne came on the market with a watch nicknamed by collectors the Mighty Double Split” or the “Über-Chronograph, a timepiece with split seconds and split minutes. This year, at the SIHH 2018, A. Lange & Söhne presented the Triple Split, the “mighter than mighty” version of its rattrapante chronograph. One watch that holds sway over them all…

The New A. Lange & Söhne Little Lange 1 – Colourful Guilloche Dials and Impeccable Mechanics

As journalists crowded around the viewing table to admire the technical fireworks of A. Lange & Söhne’s Triple Split at the SIHH 2018, I made my way to a less congested table and was treated to a hands-on session with the new members of the Little Lange 1 family. Like its Moon Phase sibling introduced last year, the new Little Lange 1 trilogy flaunts an incredible guilloché dial (without a moon phase complication) and all the hallmark traits of its Lange 1 heritage. But what nobody expected was the surprising injection of colour.

SIHH 2018 Best of Show

On the last day of SIHH 2018, Brice, Xavier and I sat down to list the best watches of this year’s Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie. It’s been a good week, tiring though with 4-hour nights, however, the overall feel of this year’s SIHH was more positive than last years. Has the industry recovered from the crisis? If I have to judge based on the feeling of the fair, I’d say yes, but let’s await the numbers that will be published in half a year from now. First… we listed the best watches of SIHH 2018 for you in the video above.

Fumbling with February: Why Not All Calendar Watches Are Created Equal

The end of February is always a minor event in the world of watch connoisseurs. The shortest month of the year prompts additional work for those with a watch collection, dates have to be forwarded to be ready for March, but not everybody will have the same amount of work on its hands.

Review: A. Lange & Söhne Zeitwerk Decimal Strike

There aren’t many watches today that are as disruptive as the Zeitwerk was when it was first unveiled in 2009. Many liken the introduction of the Zeitwerk to that of the Lange 1 in 1994, shocking and paradigm-shifting. To this day, the Zeitwerk remains the black sheep of the Lange collection with its very contemporary, atypical…

A Detailed Look at the A. Lange & Söhne Zeitwerk Decimal Strike Honey Gold

The Zeitwerk is arguably the most distinctive wristwatch by A. Lange & Söhne, along with the Datograph; the Pour le Merite chain and fusee watches are good candidates but not all of them are easily recognisable. Already produced in a dozen different forms, the Zeitwerk line-up grew one stronger at SIHH 2017 with the new Zeitwerk Decimal Strike, a […]
