Brice Goulard’s Top 10 of the SIHH 2017

First one to pull the trigger was Xavier, with his Top 10 watches of the SIHH 2017. It was not fair to leave that task to him only, so I had to do the job too. Still, picking up my 10 favorite pieces of the Geneva-based fair was not easy. Not that there was not enough material this year – we’ve seen many interesting propositions, both dream-watches or more commercial offers – but it’s always difficult to set barriers. Whatever, here they are, my 10 favorite watches of the SIHH 2017 (plus a few special mentions, some watches or policies dear to my heat…)

Hands-On With The New Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Extra-Thin in Yellow Gold

I am a huge fan of the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Extra-Thin, or as it was called before 2012, the ‘Jumbo’. It was actually one of the watches that sparked my interest in mechanical watches in the mid 1990s. Today, I talk you through the new reference 15202BA.OO.1240BA.01, the yellow gold Royal Oak Extra-Thin in […]

SIHH 2017 Personal Perspectives: Audemars Piguet

Audemars Piguet prudently relied almost entirely on the Royal Oak for its SIHH 2017 line-up, which was well received despite the design being well know, proving the power of the octagonal watch. [NB: All prices are in Swiss francs, before taxes and provisional, being subject to change.] The headliner of the collection was the Royal Oak […]

SIHH 2017 Audemars Piguet Overview: The Offshored Design

Audemars Piguet’s latest and greatest. Essentially the same Royal Oak, but in a rainbow plethora of colors. From black to lime green, some may question if their design ideas were a result of offshoring. That said, there is one piece that turned heads at SIHH. The Frosted Gold collection for ladies.…

Audemars Piguet Introduces Ceramic Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar

By Martin Green
Ever since its creation, the Audemars Piguet has kept the Royal Oak steady on the path evolution, yet at SIHH 2017 they surprised everybody with an unexpected revolution by introducing the Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar in ceramic. Although ceramic is not a new material for the brand, crafting an entire watch and bracelet from it is.

SIHH 2017 – Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Extra Thin 15202 in Full Yellow Gold

The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak is an icon born in 1972 under the pencil of a certain Gerald Genta. It was notable for several reasons – it was the world’s first luxury sports watch, it was imposing, yet impressively thin and, despite being the most expensive watch of its type on the market, it was available only in stainless steel. Collectors had to wait until 1977 to see the apparition of precious metal in this icon (an idea that for long has been rather antinomic with the whole Royal Oak concept). For the SIHH 2017, to mark the 40th anniversary of the first precious metal Royal Oaks, Audemars Piguet introduces a new series of the splendid Royal Oak Extra Thin Ref. 15202 in yellow gold.

SIHH 2017 – Audemars Piguet Introduces the Refreshed Royal Oak Chronograph

The best way to ruin an icon watch is certainly to deeply redesigned it. It seems that Audemars Piguet has this statement massively printed everywhere in the design department. Don’t change the Royal Oak, as you’ll certainly end with a result that is not as good at what you already have. Still, the market is a sucker for novelties and some fresh air is needed, from time to time. With this in mind, Audemars Piguet Introduces the Refreshed Royal Oak Chronograph at the SIHH 2017. So no big move, just some tiny little evolutions to make it rather appealing in the end, including a two-tone dial design.

20 Years of Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Chronograph Watches – The 2017 Editions

One of my personal favorite wrist watches, ever, is the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak. I have owned a couple of them and ended up with the reference 15202 ‘Jumbo’. One of the models I had and still love till this day, is their Royal Oak Chronograph. This year, Audemars Piguet is actually celebrating the 20th […]
