Hands-on – The Surprising 36mm Oris Big Crown Pointer Date in Bronze

It’s no secret that smaller case sizes are back in a big way, which is something we’re pretty pleased about here at MONOCHROME. A particular favourite is the new Oris Big Crown Pointer Date Bronze (also available in steel), which was introduced at Baselworld last month and boasts a gorgeous bronze case that measures just 36mm. This model came as somewhat of a surprise to us and so we were quite keen to see how this smaller diameter would wear on the wrist. Suffice to say we were not disappointed.

Earlier this week at the inaugural Watches & Wonders Miami, the under-the-radar-watch-manufacturer Parmigiani Fleurier debuted its new Tonda Annual Calendar. A subtle yet stylish evolution of the Tonda Quator, launched by the brand in 2011, the new Tonda Annual Calendar pairs a complex mechanical movement with an attractive and easy to read display, presenting a viable alternative to the more mainstream brands. Pre-Baselworld 2018 – Blancpain Villeret Quantième Complet GMT

The combination of a complete calendar (or Quantième Complet in French) with a moonphase indication and a GMT function is a classic at Blancpain. Indeed, this interesting and practical combination of complications established itself as a mainstay with its original debut in 2002. Even more, the complete calendar is a signature display of the brand since its re-inception in the 1980s. The Superb Laurent Ferrier Galet Annual Calendar School Piece in Pale Yellow Gold

For the SIHH 2018, Laurent Ferrier had quite a lot of novelties up his sleeve and his latest watch features a new movement and an unprecedented complication for the brand: an annual calendar.
