A day before the official opening of SIHH 2017, Montblanc surprised a select group of watch media with the invitation to experience the unveiling of a new personality for the iconic Montblanc TimeWalker collection.
Stemming from a challenge to Jean-Claude Biver to create a Hublot inspired by Richard Mille was the Masterpiece line that in turn gave birth to the Spirit of Big Bang watches. One thing we wish to see more of in 2017 is more bright colors in watches, and we are glad Hublot is delivering.
About a year ago exactly, Hublot debuted their very first Hublot Big Bang UNICO Sapphire watch. It was and, I believe, still is the most affordable high-end sapphire-cased watch around. It’s a logical partnership for a company with such a deep connection to maritime timekeeping, but the Ulysse Nardin Diver Chronograph Artemis Racing watch should also be able to stand on its own merits as a watch made to live on the high seas – or under them.

IWC likes to focus on refreshing one of its core collections each year, and I’m happy to say that this year one of IWC’s most neglected collections is getting an update. I am, of course, referring to the Da Vinci collection.
The Slovakian duo of Molnar Fabry is known for their inventive take on skeletonized movements and dials. Michal Molnar and Igor Fabry joined forces after careers in jewelry-making, combining their expertise and love for haute horology to create one-off, bespoke, largely handmade, and often richly engraved watches. The Molnar Fabry White Lotus Rattrapante chronograph watch is all of this, but is based upon a heavily modified vintage pocket watch movement.
