Baselworld 2018 – TAG Heuer Unveils the Carbon Monaco, Made with Bamford Watch Department

Recently, TAG Heuer introduced the Monaco Gulf Edition, a watch that was looking back at the very roots of the model, creating the link with Steve McQueen and the “Le Mans” movie. Quite obviously a vintage take on the iconic square chronograph. Well, for Baselworld 2018, the brand has decided to bring avant-garde to this watch, by teaming up with Bamford Watch Department, which has created a bold, contemporary variant of the TAG Heuer Monaco, this time with carbon and aqua blue accents.

Baselworld 2018 – Czapek Unveils its First Chronograph, the Faubourg de Cracovie (with a Vaucher Movement)

After the successful inaugural Quai Des Bergues watch, later followed by a complex tourbillon piece, the Place Vendôme, it is time for Czapek to unveil its third complication, this time with a sportier inspiration. As you probably noticed already, the new Czapek “Faubourg de Cracovie” (named after the location of Czapek third boutique) features a chronograph movement – and not the worst of them, as this watch is the first equipped with Vaucher’s brand-new calibre.

Baselworld 2018 – Maurice Lacroix Introduces Automatic (and accessible) versions of its Aikon

In 2016, Maurice Lacroix introduced a new collection named the Aikon. Based on a 1990s design, the Calypso, it was unfortunately (at least for us here, at MONOCHROME) only available with quartz movement. After the launch of a flagship version with skeleton movement earlier this year, it is time now for the brand to unveil the automatic versions of its sports watch. First Look – Patek Philippe 5270P Perpetual Calendar Chronograph with Superb Salmon Dial

The perpetual calendar chronograph is a combination of complications that ‘belongs’ to Patek Philippe. The 5270 continues a long tradition initiated in 1941. It was introduced in 2011 with a in-house movement as the successor of the 5970, itself an evolution of the 3970 (read our article about the different generations of the 5270 here). It is now available for the first time in the noblest of all metals, platinum. And it comes with a truly stunning salmon dial that – as often with salmon dials – is elegant, unostantatious but with that very special twist.

Baselworld 2018 – Omega Speedmaster Dark Side of the Moon “Apollo 8 50th Anniversary”

A new edition of Baselworld means a new Omega Speedmaster Special Edition. This has become a tradition – think Snoopy Award, Apollo 11 45th Anniversary, CK2998 or Apollo 17 45th Anniversary. This year, the space theme is still the main ingredient of the recipe, as Omega celebrates the 50th Anniversary of the Apollo 8 Mission. In that perspective, the brand chose to use the popular “Dark Side of the Moon” theme. But you’ll see in details that the Speedmaster Apollo 8 really is quite special – visually and mechanically.

Baselworld 2018 – Bell & Ross Vintage BRV1-92 & BRV2-94 Racing Bird

One of the cool concepts that Bell & Ross introduced a few years ago is to link the launch of a watch collection to the creation of a concept machine. Think rocket-bike for the B-Rocket collection, think super-car for the Aero-GT pieces and think vintage speed-record hot rodders for the Bellytanker models. For Baselworld 2018, the Bell & Ross does it again, and this time they look at the roots of the brand, with a new concept plane and two watches with racing jet-plane inspiration. Baselworld 2018 – TAG Heuer Carrera Heuer 02 GMT Chronograph

The Carrera is celebrating its 55th anniversary this year. To celebrate, TAG Heuer isn’t looking at the past but instead remains true to its “avant-garde” identity. They could have chosen to go vintage. Instead, they gold bold and modern.
