Hands-on – Graham Chronofighter Grand Vintage – From Big to Bigger

Launched almost 20 years, at a time when the trend for larger-than-life watches was still in its infancy, the supersized Graham Chronofighter is known as a big, rugged, bold chronograph. Inspired by historical military stopwatches, its signature lever allows to start/stop the chronograph without fail and with the thumb – the fastest of all fingers. For Baselworld 2018, the brand introduces a new version, still based on the vintage-inspired collection, named the Graham Chronofighter Grand Vintage… And yes, after being scaled-down, it now becomes large again.

Introducing – The Vacheron Constantin Overseas Automatic & Chronograph Get Black Dials

When introduced back in 2016, the re-designed Overseas was Vacheron Constantin’s answer for the highly coveted market of the luxury sports watch (a market dominated by AP and PP). First launched in blue and silver editions, later followed by warm and original brown versions, there was still one missing colour to make the collection complete. Problem solved for 2018, with the introduction of the Vacheron Constantin Overseas Automatic 4500V and Chronograph 5500V, now with black dials (and even a reversed-panda for the Chrono).

Hands-on – Hanhart Primus Monochrome Pilot – Bold, Military-Inspired and Monochromatic

First of all, important to mention that we, MONOCHROME, have nothing to do with the creation of this watch. Yet, when we’ve seen that Hanhart was about to launch a new timepiece named the “Primus Monochrome Pilot”, it was hard for us not to have a closer look. Based on the concept we’ve already reviewed a few months ago, the Primus Pilot, the German brand brings a new, stealthy and truly military-inspired version of its bold chronograph. Overview.

Hands-on – Omega Speedmaster CK2998 Pulsometer / Panda Dial

While Omega’s main focus for Baselworld 2018 was the Seamaster collection – the watch is celebrating its 70th anniversary this year – the Biel-based brand couldn’t entirely deny its other icon, the Speedmaster. Apart from the modern and surprising Dark Side of the Moon Apollo 8 edition, Omega also had something properly desirable to show: a new CK2998 Limited Edition. Nothing revolutionary here, just a cool vintage-inspired chronograph with several pleasant details. Meet the Omega Speedmaster CK2998 Pulsometer.

Baselworld 2018 – TAG Heuer Unveils the Carbon Monaco, Made with Bamford Watch Department

Recently, TAG Heuer introduced the Monaco Gulf Edition, a watch that was looking back at the very roots of the model, creating the link with Steve McQueen and the “Le Mans” movie. Quite obviously a vintage take on the iconic square chronograph. Well, for Baselworld 2018, the brand has decided to bring avant-garde to this watch, by teaming up with Bamford Watch Department, which has created a bold, contemporary variant of the TAG Heuer Monaco, this time with carbon and aqua blue accents.

Baselworld 2018 – Maurice Lacroix Introduces Automatic (and accessible) versions of its Aikon

In 2016, Maurice Lacroix introduced a new collection named the Aikon. Based on a 1990s design, the Calypso, it was unfortunately (at least for us here, at MONOCHROME) only available with quartz movement. After the launch of a flagship version with skeleton movement earlier this year, it is time now for the brand to unveil the automatic versions of its sports watch. Meet the Baselworld 2018 Maurice Lacroix Aikon Automatic, 3-hand and Chronograph.

First Look – Patek Philippe 5270P Perpetual Calendar Chronograph with Superb Salmon Dial

The perpetual calendar chronograph is a combination of complications that ‘belongs’ to Patek Philippe. The 5270 continues a long tradition initiated in 1941. It was introduced in 2011 with a in-house movement as the successor of the 5970, itself an evolution of the 3970 (read our article about the different generations of the 5270 here). It is now available for the first time in the noblest of all metals, platinum. And it comes with a truly stunning salmon dial that – as often with salmon dials – is elegant, unostantatious but with that very special twist.
