The Speake-Marin One&Two collection was launched just two years ago. First, the brand’s signature case, the Picadilly, got a facelift – a tasteful redesign conducted with Eric Giroud. Secondly, the movements inside are worth a look. In addition to the Small Seconds model and its Openworked development, the brand added a GMT version at SIHH 2019. And there was a nice, astronomical watch next to it, the Speake-Marin One&Two Academic Full Moon.
Earlier this year at the Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie (SIHH), Jaeger-LeCoultre pulled out all the stops for its women’s watches. The brand’s much-coveted Rendez-Vous collection (released seven years ago in 2012 and created just for women) was top on the list when it came to new editions. Of particular note were the high jewellery pieces that flaunted new dials, new moon phase disks and beautiful prong settings.
Marine chronometers were a staple of Glashütte’s watchmaking industry for over a century. To honour this tradition, Glashütte Original introduced the Senator Chronometer watch in 2009. Not only does the Senator Chronometer evoke the layout of historic marine chronometers but it was also the first Glashütte Original watch to flaunt official chronometer status. As an heir to the proud tradition of marine chronometers built in Glashütte, precision is the name of the game and the ingenious stop-second/reset mechanism is designed for hyper-precision time setting. The Senator Chronometer was revisited in 2016 in this 42mm white gold and dark blue dial version (see the older version here) proving that historic designs can transcend time and look completely at ease – and remarkably elegant – in the 21st century.
In a radical departure from the smooth, pebble-shaped cases we associate with Laurent Ferrier, the Bridge One embraces a new geometry marked by flowing rectangular lines with rounded edges and a strong Art Deco vibe. The movement, shaped to match the case, is also new and fitted with a traditional Swiss lever escapement as opposed to the natural escapement featured on most of LF watches. Unveiled during the SIHH 2019, we were able to spend some time with the novel Bridge One.
Prior to the SIHH, A. Lange & Söhne announced a new limited edition celebrating the 25th anniversary of what certainly is its most emblematic watch, the Lange 1 – which was born in 1994 and part of the inaugural “relaunch” collection. However, the brand isn’t only celebrating one model but in fact the entire Lange 1 collection. This isn’t one watch that will be introduced but 10 models, all along the year. Based on this beautiful modern version, here’s the A. Lange & Söhne Grand Lange 1 Moon Phase “25th Anniversary”.
