Introducing – Carl F. Bucherer Manero Tourbillon Limited Edition 2016

Carl F. Bucherer was founded in Lucerne, Switzerland, in 1888 and is based there ever since. It not only creates mechanical timepieces with one eye on traditional Swiss watchmaking and the other on contemporary design, they do this with their own in-house movements in some collections. With the introduction of their first Tourbillon movement in 2013, the family-owned brand is now ready to incorporate this into the next model: The Carl F. Bucherer Manero Tourbillon Limited Edition 2016.

Pre-SIHH 2017 – Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Frosted Gold 37mm (and why, as a man, I really like it)

Yes, this watch is advertised as a ladies’ watch. Yes, it does celebrate 40 years of Royal Oak for ladies (as the first one was introduced in 1976 and designed by Jacqueline Dimier). But, on the other hand, this watch has everything of the iconic 1972 Jumbo and the current 41mm men’s version, just in a smaller 37mm case –  which isn’t that small in reality. It has the iconic Genta-look, it has the hand-guilloche dial, it has an in-house automatic movement and, that’s the novelty here, it comes with a superb surface finishing, named gold hammering or frosting, and that is really appealing to us. Overview of the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Frosted Gold 37mm.

Hands-On Review – Seiko Presage SPB041J1 – Vintage Flair and Great Elegance for an accessible price

If you follow the actuality about watches on a regular basis, you’ve certainly noticed that Seiko – no the smallest company around, to say the least – is moving quite fast these days. The brand has evolved considerably, introducing watches in all categories of price and expanding the higher-end collections, including Grand Seiko of course, but Presage too. We already showed you earlier this week, with the Presage SSA303J1, that value for money and horological content were the motto of the collection. And this is not about to change with this other novelty in the collection, a more luxurious, more refined and more vintage-oriented watch named Seiko Presage SPB041J1… and again, you’ll have a hell of a watch for your money.

Hands-On – The new Urban Jürgensen Jules Collection (and an introduction to the brand’s rich history)

If you not familiar with the brand Urban Jürgensen yet and if haute horlogerie is one of your main interests, you clearly need to read what we’ll expose to you. While having a huge respect to traditional watchmaking, with a proper elegant design, these watches boast a definitely fascinating mechanical content. With a delicate touch of modernity, Urban Jürgensen renew their concept and introduce to us their latest creation, the Jules collection. But first, an introduction to the brand and its rich past is required.

Introducing – A. Lange & Söhne Lange 1 TimeZone Dresden Edition in Honey Gold (and with one little detail that makes it special…)

Do we have to introduce the Lange 1 to you, dear readers? If you’re here, reading at Monochrome, you certainly don’t need us to go full details about what certainly is one of the prettiest modern horological icons. The Lange 1 and its derivatives are well-known from watch enthusiasts since 1994, and for very good reasons. This is the main reason why, when a new edition is revealed, there’s always a sort of sentimental feel at the redaction – remember that the Lange 1 was (among others) the first watch introduced when Lange came back to life. And this why we’d like to introduce to you the new A. Lange & Söhne Lange 1 TimeZone Dresden Edition in Honey Gold (and the one little detail that makes it quite special…)

Hands-on Review – The Laurent Ferrier Galet Traveller, when Haute Horlogerie meets ease of use

Travelling is rarely a relaxed affair. There’s the packing, the rushing to the airport or train station, losing your passport, finding it again, running the gauntlet through security. By the time you get to your destination you’re pretty much guaranteed to be exhausted (and let’s face it probably a little buzzed). The last thing you want to be doing is fiddling around trying to adjust your watch to a new time-zone. Enter the Laurent Ferrier Galet Traveller, a watch as attractive as it is easy to use. When haute horlogerie meets functionality…

Accessible Luxury as defined by the new Frederique Constant Classics Moonphase Automatic

“Accessible Luxury” is, as you might know now, since we explained it to you several times, Frederique Constant’s motto. Well, besides the marketing gimmick behind it, there’s actually much more. At FC, this is not just an idea to print on brochures, but a real way to build watches. The idea is simple: offering a lot for the (little) money you’re about to spend in a watch. And this new Frederique Constant Classics Moonphase Automatic is just about that.

Speake-Marin introduces a new Edition of the Velsheda Gothic (specs & price)

After the first Velsheda, Speake-Marin’s vision of the mono-aiguille watch (single-hand), a timepiece that was both relatively classical in terms of design and discreetly extravagant, followed later by a Gothic edition, showing a very specific typography for the numerals – something that definitely pushed this watch in the extravagant (in a good way) category – the brand today introduces a new version. What we have here is a model still with gothic inspiration, evolutions on the dial and in a limited edition of 8 pieces. Here is the second iteration of the Speake-Marin Velsheda Gothic.
