Fabergé’s Aurélie Picaud Wins Woman of the Year Award at Eve’s Watch Awards

In a predominantly male-dominated watch world, we have some women in top positions who are making a definitive mark. Eve’s Watch aims to put the spotlight on those women, and on a choice of women’s watches that have been awarded best in one of twelve categories. Additionally, there’s a thirteenth award, chosen by the public. Last week, Aurélie Picaud, Timepiece Director at Fabergé, was awarded Woman of the Year at the 2017 Eve’s Watch Awards.

EVENT: Ferrari celebrates 70th birthday with best possible party wingman, Hublot – week-long bash ensues

Usually, an event recap refers to one single event. This one, however, details a week-long bash during Melbourne’s Motorclassica that saw the town literally painted red when the Royal Exhibition Building was lit up in a bold Italian red, with Hublot and Ferrari logos stamping the iconic site. It also included the largest ever convoy of Ferraris ever assembled in Australia, and a hell of a party to reveal the new LaFerrari Aperta in the Melbourne Docklands. Last, but certainly not least, was a new watch co-designed by Ferrari and Hublot, the extremely limited Techframe Ferrari 70 Years Tourbillon Chronograph. Remember, this was a 70th. If this is what the two brands mustered for a birthday party, just imagine what they would have done for a buck’s night. Hublot has a long-standing global alignment with Ferrari and it’s as perfect a match as any between watch and vehicle, with both marques striving to change their respective niches with technology and flair. The Drive What is the collective noun for a group of Ferraris? May we suggest a ‘growl’? That’s exactly what the idyllic lake and seaside suburb of Albert Park heard when more than 100 Ferraris took to the M1 on…

A. Lange & Söhne x Monochrome Event Recap

We don’t do this often, certainly not, however recently we hosted an event together with a watch brand. The brand in question was A. Lange & Söhne, which is in my humble opinion among the most beautiful brands in the world. The location for the event was the Louman museum, which showcases the world’s largest automotive collection in private possession. A great match! Here’s a recap of a memorable evening.

For several years I’ve been a member of the jury of the Watch Of The Year in Poland, organised by our friends of CH24.pl. Last week was the gala award ceremony, as per usual held in the beautiful Sobanski’s Palace in Warsaw. Last year we celebrated the many prize winner, and especially the Grönefeld brothers who won no less than two prizes! This year the Special Jury Award went to a fellow Dutchman and that’s #SpeedyTuesday founder Robert-Jan Broer.

Attending The Inaugural Bulgari B. Dinner In Rome, And Re-Discovering the Superb Octo Collection

A few weeks ago, luxury Italian brand, Bulgari, in conjunction with our friends at Watchonista, hosted a fun event simply called “The B. Dinner” in Rome. The idea was to bring together a group of watch enthusiasts (writers, photographers, collectors, etc.) from around Europe and introduce them to Bulgari’s “Rome”. The Eternal City is, after all, the spiritual and physical home of the brand and as such a great source of inspiration for its designs. What followed was an immensely enjoyable experience that was far more insightful than I think anyone was expecting.

Handwerkskunst according to A. Lange & Söhne – Interview with CEO Wilhelm Schmid

The other day I had the distinct pleasure of spending a few days with A. Lange & Söhne in Florence, Italy. The main purpose was the launch of the Lange 1815 Rattrapante Perpetual Calendar Handwerkskunst and four new blue dial version (Lange 1, Lange 1 Daymatic, Saxonia and Saxonia handwound), all of which we already showed you last weekend. The team at Lange organized several ‘field trips’ to various handcrafts, like lithography, fabric weaving and printing, among others, and we visited one of the most prestigious winemakers from Tuscany (the region in which Florence is located.) Wilhelm Schmid, the brand’s CEO, tells us more about Handwerkskunst and handcrafts, plus I’ll share wrist shots of a group of Lange collectors whom I accidentally ran into. Be warned… LOTS of photos!
