When Chopard’s co-President Karl-Friedrich Scheufele introduced the very first Mille Miglia collection of the brand in 1988, he made the remark that “People say that lovers of fine cars also have a great weakness for fine timepieces and vice versa.” This seems to be indeed true and also hasn’t changed over the past three decades. No surprise that many watch brands celebrate this unique symbiosis with extraordinary watches! We check out five of our favorites!
Some watchmaker-and-carmaker collaborations are a great success; others fail miserably; most, of course, fall somewhere in the middle. Many of the variables, the partners obviously can’t control — timing and luck, for example — but others, they can govern and refine. The now five-year-strong Hublot and Ferrari alliance proves a success story to learn from.
Being Ferrari means that you have a significant challenge. Where each new generation of Porsche’s 911 is an evolution, each Ferrari has to be a revolution: superior to its predecessor in often radical ways. Not every revolution empowers the right forces, but when it does, you get something like the Ferrari 488 GTB, a thoroughbred sportscar that even dips a tire into the supercar arena.
Now at the end of 2016, Hublot has just announced an interesting update/addition to a collection of watches which represents the brand’s most important partnership – that with Ferrari. Three new models showcase some cosmetic changes to the Big Bang Ferrari case, pushers, and dial, with a design which Hublot claims is a bit more inspired by the Ferrari automobiles themselves.
