Hands-on – Girard-Perregaux Laureato Chronograph

Girard-Perregaux is using the Laureato collection as its battering ram to break into the kingdom of the “luxury sports watch”. Suffice it to say that there are only 25 different models in the Bridges family, 44 models in the 1966 collection… and nearly 75 Laureato watches. And let’s keep in mind that the modern version […]

Introducing – Girard-Perregaux Laureato Skeleton “Earth to Sky” Edition

For its 2019 collection, Girard-Perregaux introduced an original “Earth to Sky” theme, which has been implemented on both existing pieces (like the 1966) or on new watches (like the Laureato Absolute). The name refers to the surprising conjunction of colours, mixing the blackness of the cosmos with the blueness of Earth. This “Earth to Sky” […]

Introducing – Girard-Perregaux La Esmeralda Tourbillon now in White Gold

If there’s one thing that sums up Girard-Perregaux it would be (to me, at least) the tourbillon under three gold bridges. The Laureato or the 1966 collections are nice, but this specific architecture for the movement, its superb hand-decorated parts, and the overall symmetrical layout is what GP does best. Presented for the 225th anniversary […]

Pre-SIHH 2019 – Girard-Perregaux Laureato Perpetual Calendar

The Laureato, since its introduction at the SIHH 2017, has been a great success for Girard-Perregaux and had allowed them to be back on the ultra-competitive and oh-so-trendy market of the luxury sports watch. Already existing in an array of models (3-hand, chronograph, tourbillon, skeleton, full ceramic), the brand continues the expansion of this collection by now looking at traditional complications. As a preview of what is to come at the SIHH 2019, meet the new Girard-Perregaux Laureato Perpetual Calendar, in sporty steel attire.

Buying Guide – 5 of the Most Iconic Luxury Sports Watches You Can Buy in 2018 (and one accessible alternative)

In the same vein as we already did with chronographs and dive watches, it’s time now to look at what probably is the current hottest watch category: the luxury sports watch. Born in the 1970s as a true disruptive concept, deliberately provocative back then – remember those ads claiming “a steel watch more expensive than gold” – and a category that today creates the buzz on the second-hand market… As those buying guides only take the best from the best, here are the 5 most iconic luxury sports watches you can buy in 2018 – or at least, dream to buy, as some are close to being unreachable.

Buying Guide – 5 of the Best Luxury-Sports Watches Launched in 2017

All of you here might know the story behind the creation of the “Luxury-Sports Watch”, a long-lasting trend that started back in 1972 when a certain Gerald Genta designed the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak. The idea began with a thin, integrated watch in stainless steel, featuring attributes from haute-Horlogerie and sports-watches, and priced over most of the gold watches at that time… Who could have imagined, back in the 1970s, that these watches could become so popular today? Well, as a demonstration that the Luxury-Sports Watch is fully alive, here are 5 of them, all introduced in 2017.

Introducing – The All-Black Everything Girard-Perregaux Laureato 42mm Ceramic

Last year, Girard-Perregaux, announced a revamped, limited edition Laureato timepiece as part of its 225th Anniversary celebrations. The response to that timepiece was very positive, and so at the beginning of this year, the Swiss manufacture followed up with an entire new Laureato collection (which we spent a bit of time getting hands-on with at SIHH.) Now, another new model is joining the line-up. Meet the very stealth-looking, all-black everything, Laureato 42 mm Ceramic.
