Graham has forged a powerful brand image around its Chronofighter, a watch collection designed to evoke the mood of vintage aviator watches. Revisited time and time again since its launch in 2001, the Chronofighter amplifies its vintage aura with a new squadron of watches. Using colours that are indelibly associated with military aircraft, the trilogy of Chronofighter Vintage watches are a nostalgic flight back in time to the 1940s.
Nose-art is an art form consisting in decorative painting on the fuselage of airplanes, in particular during WWII when colorful images, shark teeth or pin ups appeared on the nose of military aircrafts. As Graham’s most emblematic timepiece, the Chronofigther, is inspired from aviation, the brand started to feature pin-ups on the dial of its Chronofighter Nose Art in 2017 and new girls just joined the Graham pin-up squad at Baselworld 2018.
Launched almost 20 years, at a time when the trend for larger-than-life watches was still in its infancy, the supersized Graham Chronofighter is known as a big, rugged, bold chronograph. Inspired by historical military stopwatches, its signature lever allows to start/stop the chronograph without fail and with the thumb – the fastest of all fingers. For Baselworld 2018, the brand introduces a new version, still based on the vintage-inspired collection, named the Graham Chronofighter Grand Vintage… And yes, after being scaled-down, it now becomes large again.
Graham’s warhorse par excellence, the Chronofighter is an oversized chronograph with a racing soul renowned for its prominent lever on the left side of the case protecting the chronograph trigger. This key identity trait appears time after time in every iteration of this brand pillar, be it a vintage-style pilot’s watch or an elegant GMT model. When the Chronofighter Superlight collection was unveiled in 2017, the XXL 47mm bad boy chronograph was lightened up with a carbon case (weighing in at less than 100g) and brightened up some with racy blue, red and yellow details on the dial and matching rubber straps.
Chinese New Year is fast approaching and there is another victory girl in the Graham pin-up line up. The concept of the vintage-inspired pilot chronograph, with its bold lefty-case, combined with painted dials depicting Nose Art is now a signature style for the brand, and there’s a new “babe” coming.
