Eventful, Innovative, Sometimes Unloved, Sometimes Iconic… The History Of The IWC Da Vinci

Over several decades of existence, the IWC Da Vinci has drastically evolved and has seen dozens of versions and style. Yet, even if this watch is certainly not as popular as the Portugeiser or the Big Pilot’s Watch, it has been the field for multiple innovations and milestones for the brand. Before we go hands-on with the latest version of the Da Vinci, in what we think is the key model of the 2017 collection, the Perpetual Calendar Chronograph, as a tribute to the famous 1985 watch created by legend Kurt Klaus, a short history of the IWC Da Vinci would be more than useful.

SIHH 2017 Personal Perspectives: IWC

IWC offered a peek at the revamped Da Vinci before SIHH 2017, revealing a design decidedly more conventional than its predecessor. Large, round and classically styled, the new Da Vinci is attractive in the metal, with a diversity of models that are all comparatively reasonably priced, even the complicated models. All models feature swivelling lugs that help the […]

The Chief Editor’s Choice for SIHH 2017

Another epic week ends. The mood was cautious this year at the Salon International de Haute Horlogerie in Geneva. The watches being presented were magnificently beautiful, but with a decidedly more commercial flavour. Prices seem to head toward more modest levels. And many entry level watches are being shown. Here is the Chief Editor’s…

SIHH 2017 – IWC Da Vinci Automatic 40mm

Like Brice already mentioned in our first Pre-SIHH 2017 coverage introducing the IWC Da Vinci Perpetual Calendar Chronograph, IWC follows tradition and revamps an entire collection. We’ve seen such practice happening over the past 4 years and this year is no different. The Da Vinci collection gets revamped, and one of the new models is this IWC Da Vinci 40mm Automatic. Farewell to the tonneau case, welcome to the round case. Farewell to the modern interpretation of the Da Vinci, welcome to the inspired-by-the-original Da Vinci.

SIHH 2017 – IWC Da Vinci Chronograph Edition “Laureus Sport for Good Foundation”

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the last few weeks you should already be aware that 2017 is the year of the Da Vinci for IWC. In layman’s terms that means that Schaffhausen-based manufacturer has completely overhauled the Da Vinci collection this year, complete with a return to the more traditional (and in my opinion, more attractive) round case. Included within this newly revamped collection is the Da Vinci Chronograph Edition “Laureus Sport for Good Foundation”, a special watch with an ulterior motive. Read on to find out what it is.

SIHH 2017: Introducing the Time-Only, 40mm IWC Da Vinci Automatic

The restyled Da Vinci line is the focus of IWC‘s line-up at SIHH 2017, and it’s heavy on complicated watches for men and simpler watches for ladies. There’s only a single time-only watch for men, the Da Vinci Automatic. Stainless steel and 40mm in diameter, the Da Vinci Automatic takes some inspiration from the Da Vinci […]

SIHH 2017: IWC Introduces the Da Vinci Tourbillon Retrograde Chronograph

IWC unveiled the smartly redesigned Da Vinci just before SIHH 2017, but kept the top of the line model under wraps, until now. The Da Vinci Tourbillon Retrograde Chronograph features complications found on other IWC timepieces, but never before combined together. Powered by the calibre 89900 – a variant of the movement that also underpins the new Da Vinci Perpetual […]
