At the SIHH 2018, Jaeger-LeCoultre re-introduced one of its most emblematic collections, the Polaris. Slightly vintage-inspired, superbly executed (the case is superb), utterly JLC in the style but with a sportier look, it has been quite a success. Already comprising multiple models, including a 3-hander, a time-and-date, a chronograph, a chronograph-world-time and, of course, an alarm version (the Memovox), today Jaeger-LeCoultre adds a world-time-only edition to the Collection, with the new Polaris Geographic WT – a limited edition, boutique exclusive.

Industry News – Massive Shake-ups Again at Richemont – Inc. New CEOs for JLC and Baume & Mercier

2017 has been quite hectic for the Richemont Group. Indeed, we’ve seen the “Big Reshuffle” with 4 CEOs leaving (JLC, Vacheron, Piaget, Dunhill) as well as the appointment of Lambert as Head of Operations and Kern as Head of Watchmaking, Marketing and Digital. Everything was planned until Kern announced its departure for Breitling, which led Lambert to be appointed COO of all the Maisons. The storm isn’t over yet, even if the situation seems easier today. According to Business Montres, there are new CEOs for both Jaeger-LeCoultre and Baume et Mercier.

Hands-on – Jaeger-LeCoultre Polaris Automatic – The Entry-Level to JLC’s new Sports Collection

Jaeger-LeCoultre takes a decidedly elegant plunge into the sports watch arena with the 2018 Polaris Collection. Reviewed here in detail, the five new members of the Polaris family are clearly descendants of the legendary Memovox Polaris model of 1968, revisited with just the right mix of vintage styling and contemporary tweaks. The Polaris Automatic is the simplest, smallest (41mm) and most contemporary looking model in the collection offering time only indications and an attractive entry-level price. For those of you who suffer from ‘datewindowphobia’, you will be pleased to discover that there is no such thing on this model allowing for an unobstructed, uninterrupted view of the dial. Smart enough to wear to the office yet rugged and sporty enough for 100-metre dives, the Polaris Automatic is as versatile as they come with a great history to boot.

SIHH 2018 Best of Show

On the last day of SIHH 2018, Brice, Xavier and I sat down to list the best watches of this year’s Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie. It’s been a good week, tiring though with 4-hour nights, however, the overall feel of this year’s SIHH was more positive than last years. Has the industry recovered from the crisis? If I have to judge based on the feeling of the fair, I’d say yes, but let’s await the numbers that will be published in half a year from now. Right from the start of the SIHH 2018, we made sure that the new Jaeger-LeCoultre Polaris 2018 Collection was already covered here, on MONOCHROME. Indeed, it represents one of the main novelties of the Show and, mainly, an extremely important collection for JLC, as their only true sports range of watches. And while the Memovox will certainly be the most desirable of them all, we chose to show you another (very close) model, that we consider here the cornerstone of the collection, as non-limited, relatively affordable but still vintage-inspired. You name it, the Jaeger LeCoultre Polaris Date.
