Hands-on – The Redesigned MeisterSinger Pangaea Day-Date

MeisterSinger stands out from the crowded watch scene with its unique identity. Before the invention of the minute hand, early mechanical clocks showed only hours… And just like these, the German brand produces single-hand mechanical timepieces. The latest watch in the collection sticks to this “mono-aiguille” display and adds some useful calendar indications. Meet the […]

Buying Guide – 5 of the Coolest Bronze Watches of Baselworld 2019

Bronze watches have developed into a major trend over the past few years. A tough and strong metal, bronze lends itself perfectly to robust watches. Most importantly, it offers something different, a burst of colour that changes over time with the unique patina developing randomly on the surface of the metal. And if you’re bold […]

Buying Guide – The Best Accessible Watches (Under EUR 2,500) we Saw at Baselworld 2019

With the Swatch Group gone from Baselworld 2019, the “Value Proposition” category, meaning watches under EUR 2,500, has been seriously affected. Brands like Tissot, Mido, Hamilton or Longines usually perform well in this segment. Nevertheless, this doesn’t mean we haven’t seen some cool things at Baselworld this year (and around the fair too). Here are […]

Hands-on – MeisterSinger Vintago – the One-Handed Timekeeper gets a Retro Makeover

German brand MeisterSinger is known for single-hand watches and with few exceptions (this one, too), its entire portfolio reflects that. It has made the most of this simplicity with interesting takes on the aesthetic, such as the skeletonized Salthora Meta Transparent with a visible jumping hour or bronze editions of popular collections. It has also […]

Buying Guide – The 10 Best Watches of 2018 Under 2,000 EUR

Let’s make things clear! When Frank founded MONOCHROME over 12 years ago, the main objective was to create “an online magazine dedicated to fine watches”. That meant the celebration of traditional, high-end watchmaking. However, we are very much aware that most of our readers can’t afford such pieces and we are very much aware that accessible, down-to-earth, good price/quality watches are important. Yet, lower prices often mean lower quality – but not for us.
For this reason, we will publish several price-oriented buying guides until the end of the year, listing our favourite watches of 2018 – thus, each will be able to find the right watch according to his budget. Starting today, here are our 10 best watches of 2018 priced under EUR 2,000 – and well below that for some of these watches! And because you’re reading MONO, they are, of course, all mechanical timepieces. Believe it or not but “enamel dial”, “in-house movement”, “chronometer” or “annual calendar” are even part of this buying guide!

German brand MeisterSinger has carved a niche in the market with its single-handed watches. The Perigraph, MeisterSinger’s automatic watch with an open date ring is revisited in this handsome, 43mm bronze case. A winning combination of industrial German design with the warm vintage appeal of bronze, this new take on the Perigraph is a limited edition of just 100 pieces and is available at retailers now. And here are our thoughts about it.

Hands-on – The MeisterSinger Black Line – A Darker and Sportier Take on the Single-Hand Concept

Many brands struggle to stand out from the crowd and to define what makes them unique. Not with MeisterSinger. This brand makes mechanical watches with one single hand for people who just want to keep track of time, with a certain poetry in the display. This has always been the defining point of the brand. While usually rather classical (even though sometimes colourful), the brand recently started to offer bolder pieces, and that includes a brand new collection of black, instrumental watches introduced at Baselworld 2018. Meet the four watches of the MeisterSinger Black Line – including the Circularis Power Reserve, the Salthora Meta, the Perigraph and the No.03.

Hands-on – MeisterSinger Lunascope – The Single-Hand Watch goes “Astronomical”

MeisterSinger, the German brand famed for pioneering the single-hand watch trend, has just introduced its first astronomical watch – the Lunarscope. Occupying the top half of the dial is an oversized moonphase display, set against a dark blue, starry background. It’s a direct contradiction to the brand’s usual minimalist aesthetic but surprisingly, it actually works pretty well. We spent some time getting hands-on with the new model, here are our thoughts.
