Pre-Baselworld 2018 – Bell & Ross BR03-92 Horoblack and BR03-94 Horolum

Last year the Parisian brand Bell & Ross brought us new releases in their BR03-range, with one clear thing in mind: back to basics. The “Horo” line focused on simple, striking squared cases, micro-blasted matte finishing and an utter utilitarian look and feel – a concept also shared by the new BR03-92 Nightlume. This year, Bell & Ross introduces two new members; the BR03-92 Horoblack and the BR03-94 Horolum – and again, legibility first.

Pre-Baselworld 2018 – Blancpain Villeret Quantième Complet GMT

The combination of a complete calendar (or Quantième Complet in French) with a moonphase indication and a GMT function is a classic at Blancpain. Indeed, this interesting and practical combination of complications established itself as a mainstay with its original debut in 2002. Even more, the complete calendar is a signature display of the brand since its re-inception in the 1980s. For Baselworld 2018, the Le Brassus-based manufacture reinterprets this classic in a modern way, with a redesigned dial, an improved movement and more practicality. Here is the Blancpain Villeret Quantième Complet GMT.

Baume & Mercier Clifton Baumatic 5 Days/Chronometer

Last month, we wrote about an unexpected new timepiece from an unexpected source: the Clifton Baumatic from Baume & Mercier. Officially unveiled at SIHH 2018, we had the chance to spend some time getting hands-on with this all-rounder/dress watch and were quite impressed with what we found. The big news was, of course, the introduction …

The 3D Printed Watches of Dutch Watchmaker Michiel Holthinrichs – Part 1, The Concept

For centuries, people have relied on their hands only to manufacture stuff. Everything from raw material to finished products relied on craftsmanship and hard labour. Of course, the industrial revolution changed all of this, with the rise of machine-controlled production – and the same goes for the watchmaking industry. What took the skilled hand of a master craftsman to achieve the goal of precision timing, eventually moved into fully laser-guided, machined watches. Now though, we are perhaps on the brink of a new revolution: 3D-printed watchmaking. We dive into the world and mind of Michiel Holthinrichs, a young Dutch pioneering watchmaker.

Czapek Quai des Bergues Order of Malta Special Edition (with Video)

If you are a regular reader of MONOCHROME, you will be familiar with the independent watchmaker Czapek. A name with a lot of history (François Czapek was a Geneva-based Polish watchmaker whose 6-year partnership with Antoni Patek gave birth to remarkable watches before the latter founded Patek Philippe with Adrien Philippe), the brand was revived in 2015 with the launch of the Quai des Bergues. The first modern Czapek creation was awarded the Public Prize at the prestigious Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève in 2016. At Baselworld 2017, the brand introduced the Place Vendôme tourbillon featuring a GMT indication.

Talking Future of Singer Reimagined with Rob Dickinson & Marco Borraccino (and a look at the new Track 1 Geneva Edition)

Back in June 2017, we were one of the first media to introduce to you a new brand named Singer Reimagined. The brainchild of Rob Dickinson, founder of Singer Vehicle Design, and Marco Borraccino, watch designer, the first timepiece they presented, the Track 1, was a super-cool, 1970s-inspired chronograph, which reimagined the way a stopwatch could be displayed – thanks to a crazy movement by Agenhor. After we took the time to talk cars and watches with Rob, it was the right moment for us to go back to Geneva and to sit down again with these guys, to talk future of Singer Reimagined with Rob & Marco (video above).
