SIHH 2017 Personal Perspectives: Panerai – A Little Bit of Everything From LAB-ID to Bronzo (to Mare Nostrum Redux)

Panerai‘s line-up at SIHH 2017 was unusual in being largely contemporary in feel, instead of heavily relying on vintage styling as is the brand’s habit. The collection was headlined by the experimental LAB-ID Luminor 1950 Carbotech, but primarily focused on new Luminor Submersible models, including the latest Submersible Bronzo. There were a handful of intriguing watches shown but […]

Review: Panerai LAB-ID Luminor 1950 Carbotech™ 3 Days PAM00700

One of the shockers which reverberated around the PalExpo halls this SIHH was the news that Panerai had introduced a watch which came with a 50 year warranty. Immediately, the antennae went up…publicity stunt. Especially when the 50 year warranty is coupled with a limited edition of 50 pieces and priced at € 50,000. But when we got…

The Chief Editor’s Choice for SIHH 2017

Another epic week ends. The mood was cautious this year at the Salon International de Haute Horlogerie in Geneva. The watches being presented were magnificently beautiful, but with a decidedly more commercial flavour. Prices seem to head toward more modest levels. And many entry level watches are being shown. Here is the Chief Editor’s…

Panerai PAM00684 – The Small & Gold Luminor Submersible that Rocks

Panerai watches are great. They look super-cool, they have that unique aura of a robust and vintage dive watch mixed with that Italian je-ne-sais-quoi. They are icons of watchmaking. Still, there might be one issue with these watches. Most are sized for lumberjacks’ wrists. If the 45mm or 47mm diameters participate to the look (and they are actually easier to wear than what you can expect), a smaller size could be welcome. That’s what happened with the Panerai Luminor Due, the smaller, slimmer and dressier versions of the icon. But what if you want the sporty look? Well, for the SIHH 2017, the answer came in the name of the Panerai Luminor Submersible 1950 3 Days Automatic Oro Rosso 42mm PAM00684, the small & gold Luminor Submersible that rocks.

Heritage and History – The Power Of Panerai

3, 6, 9 and 12 – There is no watch brand that relies, so much on these four bold numbers. Year after year, Panerai keeps its followers in a grip and surprises them with new models. Often with minimal changes, since at Panerai it is all about details. Now I just said minimal changes, but that’s a bit […]
