Introducing – The Frederique Constant Slimline Perpetual Calendar Manufacture Skeleton by Peter Speake

Frederique Constant, renowned, among other things, for its remarkable price-to-quality ratio, surprised the watch community with its original Slimline Perpetual Calendar model 2016. This competitively priced (under EUR 10,000) watch, equipped with the brand’s FC-775 perpetual calendar calibre, quickly gained recognition. In 2022, Frederique Constant presented an unexpected update to this model through a collaboration […]

For this new instalment of the Collector’s Series, we meet again with California-based collector @Watch_Time_It_Is (his IG account is something that could be named “watch wonderland”…), who already talked to us about two extremely desirable watches from the independent watchmaking scene, a McGonigle Tuscar Bánú and a Grönefeld Parallax. And for his third (but not last) appearance […]

Review – The Sports Watch From Stoic World – Peter Speake-Marin’s Polarizing Reemergence In The Affordable Market

Imagine Enzo Ferrari leaving his company after its reputation was well established, only to reemerge a year later with a new car brand offering affordable, compact sedans. As crazy as that scenario sounds, it’s kind of analogous to the current situation we have with Peter Speake-Marin. It wasn’t long ago that his name was associated with expensive, exclusive and complicated timepieces, featuring in-house movements, tourbillons, minute repeaters and more. Those days are behind Peter, who left the company last year to pursue other interests (inc. The Naked Watchmaker), but he’s suddenly back with a new watch brand, Stoic World. The Sports Watch is one of three in Stoic World’s portfolio of affordable, mainstream watches, having virtually no resemblance to his former collections. Let’s take a closer look at the Sports Watch (and touch on the other two) and see if this new direction is worthy of the Peter Speake-Marin name.

Peter Speake-Marin: A True Modern Classic

Throwback Sundays: Six Recommendations for a Speake-Marin Watch, from Our Archives

To some, when it comes to independent watchmakers, Peter Speake-Marin is probably one of the first few names that will come to mind. And yet others will go, “Peter Who?” The Speake-Marin began in earnest only in 2002, and is a relatively new name in the world of horology, but he had garnered a respectable following by…
