Baselworld 2018 – Bell & Ross Vintage BRV1-92 & BRV2-94 Racing Bird

One of the cool concepts that Bell & Ross introduced a few years ago is to link the launch of a watch collection to the creation of a concept machine. Think rocket-bike for the B-Rocket collection, think super-car for the Aero-GT pieces and think vintage speed-record hot rodders for the Bellytanker models. For Baselworld 2018, the Bell & Ross does it again, and this time they look at the roots of the brand, with a new concept plane and two watches with racing jet-plane inspiration. Meet the new Bell & Ross Vintage BRV1-92 & BRV2-94 Racing Bird.

Baselworld 2018 – Breitling Navitimer Super 8, Inspired by a WWII Stopwatch

We just introduced to you the new Navitimer 1 Automatic, a clean, historically-relevant and smaller piece in the collection. That’s not all the brand will have at Baselworld 2018. Breitling will also look at the other side of the range, with a true instrument piece. Voluntarily large, properly masculine, made with ruggedness and inspired by a past model of the brand, here is the Breitling Navitimer Super 8.

Baselworld 2018 – Breitling Introduces the Navitimer 1 Automatic 38 – And yes, that’s a 3-hander

We already knew that some changes were about to come at Breitling. We’ve seen it with the introduction of the Navitimer 8, a brand new collection that we explained to you in details. This new strategy will be deployed over all the collections and that includes the iconic Navitimer 1. Here is the first (and drastic) evolution, with the Navitimer 1 Automatic 38. It is small and mainly, it is a 3-hander…

Value Proposition – AVI-8 Flyboy Centenary Collection “the 1920s Edition”

AVI-8 might still be a young brand, they are not beginners anymore. Their latest watch far from being their first offence. Their collection of timepieces seeks to honour aircrafts and airmen and if the previous model, the AV-4047, was a modern Pilot Watch inspired by the Hawker Harrier II, what has just been launched (now with pre-orders, with special “early-bird” price) is far more vintage-oriented – yet still highly accessible and well-crafted. Meet the AVI-8 Flyboy Centenary Collection “the 1920s Edition”.

Review – Understanding the Breitling Navitimer 8 B01 – with its Historic & Strategic Background

This is a fact: Breitling is changing. Since the arrival of Georges Kern (ex-CEO of IWC Watches and ex-Richemont) and CVC Partners at the head of the brand, some drastic changes are underway. And we all know it, change is both a necessity and the most complex thing to manage. The first evidence of this new strategy is named the Breitling Navitimer 8 collection, a piece that already hit the headlines and created strong debates amongst the watch community. After we had the chance to hear from Kern directly, it is time for us to take a closer look at the collection’s flagship, the Navitimer 8 B01 Chronograph, and to try to give you a clearer view of what is going on at the brand.

Pre-Baselworld 2018 – Bell & Ross BR03-92 Horoblack and BR03-94 Horolum

Last year the Parisian brand Bell & Ross brought us new releases in their BR03-range, with one clear thing in mind: back to basics. The “Horo” line focused on simple, striking squared cases, micro-blasted matte finishing and an utter utilitarian look and feel – a concept also shared by the new BR03-92 Nightlume. This year, Bell & Ross introduces two new members; the BR03-92 Horoblack and the BR03-94 Horolum – and again, legibility first.

Pre-Baselworld 2018 – Bell & Ross BR03-92 Nightlum

The main objective of a pilot’s watch is to be legible, in every situation – during the day as well as at night. This means: avoiding reflections but also confusions between the indications, providing a great contrast and being luminous even in pitch black conditions. As a preview for Baselworld 2018, Bell & Ross makes a “back to basics”, with a new version of their iconic military/pilot watch that is just that: legible, first and foremost. Meet the new Bell & Ross BR03-92 Nightlum.

Orologi Calamai G50 MKIII Solotempo – an Accessible Pilot Watch with an Aviation-Rooted Past

This review will feature not one, but two watches of a small, Italian brand we recently introduced; Orologi Calamai. When being in touch with the brand, and reviewing their CR42 Chrono earlier this year, I learned a new watch was coming. Being a quintessential Italian brand focusing on watches with an aviation look and feel, the Calamai family were developing the new G50 MKIII Solotempo. A simple, yet effective time only watch. We review it right here and now.

Hamilton Khaki Field Mechanical 38mm – Super Accessible, Cool and Hand-Wound

Sometimes – yes, it does happen to us, watch snobs – we like to take a look at some watches that could properly be named “value propositions”. By that, we don’t mean only an accessible price but also an outstanding value for the money. What Swiss brand Hamilton will launch soon is just that: cool and historically relevant design, right proportions, mechanical movement (and hand-wound in addition to that) and very, very friendly priced… Meet the new Hamilton Khaki Field Mechanical 38mm.
