Bovet, very much a niche connoisseur brand, is finally attracting the attention it merits. Since its introduction in 2014 (or even in 2010 if you look at the very first Zero Series, which was the predecessor of this model), the Ressence Type 1 never ceased to evolve. From the lack of crown and the original display, then followed by several colours/finishing and finally the introduction of the Squared version, this watch has become an entire collection named “Air-Filled” (contrasting with the oil-filled watches). Meet the TAG Heuer Carrera Calibre Heuer 02T Tourbillon Nanograph – and again, innovation doesn’t necessarily mean insane prices.
In recent years Montblanc has made a concerted effort to remind watch lovers everywhere of its rich history with Minerva, the Villeret-based brand that it owns and that is known for the incredibly beautiful chronograph movements. Now, Montblanc further underscores that commitment to integrating Minerva’s finest handcraftsmanship with its state-of-the-art watchmaking to create new Heritage pieces inspired by the 1940s and 1950s – not the least of which is the new Montblanc Heritage Pulsograph. A steel case, a Salmon dial and a Minerva 13.21 combined in a superb watch.
2019 is shaping up to be the year of the Submersible for Panerai, with the brand hitting hard with a collection full of their most modern takes on the dive watch. And one of the coolest is the Submersible Luna Rossa, a very cool carbon fibre number made to honour their brand new partnership with the 36th America’s Cup challenger of record, team Luna Rossa, and their AC75. The first watch in this partnership is a 47mm large Carbotech case, and the material takes on a completely different, much more stealthy characteristic here than on the previous Carbotech model, thanks to the complementary dial and rubber strap. The dial is quite interesting too, a textured black that is literally textured, given that pieces of the sail of the Luna Rossa have been applied to it. On top of that, there’s a GMT, one of the few flashes of colour in this otherwise monochromatic landscape (the other is the small seconds at nine). The movement, hidden behind a titanium back engraved with the boat, is the P.9010 Manufacture movement. The complete package is rated to 30 bar.
