TUDOR BASELWORLD 2017 – Predictions For The Novelties That Tudor Could Launch In 2017

It has become a recurring game for us here, at Monochrome-Watches. In the same way we just shared with you our predictions for sister-brand Rolex, we’ll show what we expect to see from Tudor at Baselworld 2017. Just like previous years (see here and here), this article is pure imagination-based and is nothing official. Yet, the watches we’ll show you don’t come out of the blue and are well-thought propositions. After a year 2016 mainly based on the Heritage Black Bay (Black Bay Bronze, Black Bay 36, Black Bay Dark, Black Bay Manufacture), we think it’s time for Tudor to move in other directions, to look at other collections and to explore new territories. Thus, as you’ll see, here is our dark and travel-oriented Tudor Baselworld 2017 collection.

Manchester United Special Edition Chronographs Just Unveiled by TAG Heuer

The fact that the LVMH Watch Division, led by J.C. Biver, is quite inclined in sports partnerships is no secret. There are dozens of them. Today, the Group brings back on board one of their long-time partners, Manchester United. Indeed, the Football Club was partnering with sister-brand Hublot in the early 2010s, before moving to another Swiss brand. Well, the team is back in Biver’s portfolio, as a partnership was signed between TAG Heuer and Manchester United in 2016, TAG being official timekeeper. Both partners now just announce the creation of two TAG Heuer Manchester United Special Edition Chronographs, based on the Carrera Heuer-01 and the Formula 1.

Omega Introduces the Seamaster Planet Ocean 600m PyeongChang 2018 Limited Edition

In exactly one year from now, on February 9, 2018, the 2018 Winter Olympics will open their doors in PyeongChang, South Korea. As it is now common, the official timekeeper of the Olympics will again be Omega Watches. Indeed, the Biel-based brand has fulfilled the role on 27 occasions since 1932. And because it has now become a very common practice (see the 2016 Rio Editions, here and here, or the first PyeongChang Edition), Omega will have a dedicated watch to celebrate the event. With the colours of the South Korean flag as an inspiration, here is the Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean 600m PyeongChang 2018 Limited Edition.

Introducing the 2017 Updated Oris Aquis Date Collection (More Refined, Still Powerful)

Since its introduction, the Oris Aquis has always been the high-performance dive watch of the brand. Sturdy, robust, strong and powerful, this watch is all about performance and reliability. So to say, a real tool watch, which earned the status of icon in the Oris collection. Even if it remained modern, Oris has decided to bring a new take on the Aquis Date Collection, with subtle evolutions of most components, in order to bring modernity and extra-refinement to a still very toolish and professional-oriented watch. Here is the updated Oris Aquis Date Collection for 2017, more refined, still powerful.

ROLEX BASELWORLD 2017 – Predictions For The Novelties That Rolex Could Launch In 2017

It’s that time of the year again… In less than 2 months Baselworld will open its doors, revealing a myriad of new watch collections. Included among them of course will be the new releases from Rolex for 2017. Today we’re featuring what has become something of a recurring game for us here at Monochrome. Just like we did in 2016, 2015 and 2014 we’ve spent the last few weeks guessing what could be the Rolex Baselworld 2017 Collection? This is the question we’re trying to answer today. What could be Rolex 2017 Novelties? After long debates based on our own expectations, analysis of the Rolex catalogue and data compiled from discussions at several watch forums, here are the watches that Rolex could potentially launch at Baselworld 2017. Keep in mind, these are just predictions. Nothing is official.

BYOW (Build-Your-Own-Watch) – The Revolo Concept, An Affordable Way To Design A Unique Watch

Admit it, most of us (if not ALL of us) have dreamt about it at one point; building your own watch. Whether it’s our very own watch brand, or a Pièce Unique. Normally, if you call it normal, this will cost you thousands if not hundreds of thousands, especially when you want to turn your concept into an actual brand. There is a solution though, and it goes by the name of Revolo. We take a look at what it is, and what it can do for you through our very own “Monochrome Pièce Unique”.

The Blancpain Bathyscaphe Now In 38mm – A Smaller Version Presented in the Frame of The Blancpain Ocean Commitment (BOC) Inauguration in Zurich

Blancpain has been committed for years to raising awareness about the ever-increasing need to safeguard our oceans. The issue is a critical one that affects all of us and immediate action is required, so it is always good to see a brand taking the initiative to help protect our environment. This program is all the more meaningful given Blancpain’s historical connection with diving, going as far back as 1953 with the launch of the first modern diving watch, the Fifty Fathoms, which is now introduced in 38mm during the inauguration of the Blancpain Ocean Commitment exhibition in Zurich*.

Pre-BaselWorld 2017 – Bell & Ross BR03-92 Horograph and BR03-92 Horolum

Now that the SIHH 2017 is off, it’s time for the Baselworld-exposing brands to start to unveil (a part of) their new collections. One of the first watchmakers to pull the trigger is Bell & Ross, which is making a comeback to minimalistic aviation-oriented pieces, after a few iterations based on racing-cars or complications. Iconic square case, graphic lines, matte finishing, utilitarian look, monochromatic tones and Bauhaus inspiration… Here are the Bell & Ross BR03-92 Horograph and BR03-92 Horolum (the latter being a 500-piece limited edition).

SIHH 2017 – Baume & Mercier Debuts In Sports Watches With The Satisfying Clifton Club

The SIHH 2017 has seen the debuts of an entirely new collection for Baume & Mercier, the Clifton Club, exploring new territories for the brand: sports watches. Indeed, this universe is at first rather far away from what the brand used to do for the last decade. Still, this Clifton Club is an interesting novelty. No marketing artifices about heritage, vintage-inspiration or an obscure past collection. This watch is just what it looks like; a nicely executed, well-designed, well-positioned (price and style) watch that makes us think it might be a relevant reaction to the actual market. Overview.

REVIEW – Squale Squalematic 60 Atmos – A Dive Watch Full of Vintage Charisma

The vintage-inspired trend that overshadows the watch market these past few years is still evolving, with most companies more or less digging in their archives, trying to find vintage designs, to bring them back in life. Although this may show the difficult position of the Swiss watch industry as a whole, it can be argued that it has some benefits. Perhaps the most important one is that the market is full of great new watches. One of these is arguably the new Squale Squalematic 60 Atmos, a vintage-inspired dive watch that comes from a company with great pedigree. So we placed it under the Monochrome microscope and here are our thoughts.
