As previously announced on Monochrome, the Schaffhausen-based manufacturer is revamping its Da Vinci collection in 2017 including a return to the original round case which popularised this collection in the 1980s (read our article here). SIHH 2017 – Greubel Forsey Tourbillon 24 Secondes Vision now in Platinum with 4 Dial Options

Launched in 2015, the Greubel Forsey Tourbillon 24 Secondes Vision is the brand’s vision (pun intended) of a pure and clean watch, a piece that doesn’t scream too loud its noble origins and that discreetly display the time, a small second and a tourbillon. All of that was encased in a very round watch (not usual for the brand) and, well, it is just as plain as a Greubel Forsey can be. Still, turn it back and you’ll see an incredible level of finish and a fast-rotating tourbillon. The Greubel Forsey Tourbillon 24 Secondes Vision will see new versions for the SIHH 2017 and will now be offered with 4 dials options, including the very appealing Salmon version on top of this article (and I know someone at the Monochrome redaction who’ll love it).

Fighting Gravity… Twice – Hands-On with the Blancpain Tourbillon Carrousel

The accuracy of a watch is always subject to the influences of gravity. Changes in position can have significant effects on how effectively a watch keeps time, particularly disturbances in the balance wheel isochronism. Traditionally speaking, watchmakers have tried to counter the negative effects of gravity by using rotating devices to average out positional errors: the tourbillon – patented by Breguet in 1801 – and the carrousel – patented by the Danish horologist Bonniksen in 1892. Today, Monochrome goes hands-on with the stunning Blancpain Tourbillon Carrousel, which for the first time combines both systems, coupled by a differential gearing mechanism.

Death to Gravity with the Corum Bubble 47 Flying Tourbillon Skull

At Baselworld 2015, an icon was back; the Corum Bubble – a watch that first came on the market in 2000, a watch with a unique bulb shape, large and thick, full of distortions but a watch that served a major role in the brand’s recent history. It seems that what is now the main cool factor of these older versions, meaning the countless and all unexpected limited to unique editions, is back – see this version for illustration. Today, the Corum Bubble send a fatal message to gravity, with the unique piece Flying Tourbillon Skull.
