MICRO MONDAYS: The AVI-8 Hawker Harrier Blue Nylon Limited Edition

AVI-8 Hawker Harrier Blue Nylon Limited EditionPilot’s watches have always been a strong category for watch consumers around the world, drawing an emotional and heritage-driven connection to the symbiosis between aviation and horology. Inspired by a Harrier XV741 flown in a 1969 Transatlantic Air Race from London to New York, AVI-8 offers a value-driven pilot’s watch designed with a clear and detailed love for all things aviation. The brand has worked very hard to appropriately pay homage to Tom Lecky-Thompson and his team through subtle nods to the pilot and plane that won more than 50 years ago. Code-named “Blue Nylon” by Lecky-Thompson and his team, AVI-8 decided to make their second limited edition celebrating the victory a watch that tastefully pairs with blue leather and nylon-velcro straps – the AVI-8 Hawker Harrier Blue Nylon Limited Edition. The AVI-8 Hawker Harrier Blue Nylon Limited Edition features a 44mm stainless steel case that is 13.5mm thick and approximately 52mm across the wrist lug to lug. Water resistant to 50 metres, the watch will make a nice companion for daily wear. In tribute to Lecky-Thompson and his Harrier XV741, the watch has a custom self-winding rotor designed to resemble the famed Rolls-Royce Pegasus engine that powered the plane’s flight. With…

Review – Omega Seamaster Diver 300M Master Chronometer (Video)

The Seamaster is one of Omega’s oldest collection, born in 1948, and modelled after watches that Omega delivered to the Royal Air Force during the second world war. Introducing – H. Moser & Cie. Streamliner Flyback Chronograph Funky Blue (Live Photos & Video Review)

The luxury sports watch, understand the sporty-chic steel watch with an integrated bracelet, is without doubt the hottest category on the current market. It seems that most brands need to enter this race to gain the heart of enthusiasts. H. Moser & Cie, the slightly irreverent independent watchmaker, did so in early 2020 with a highly personal watch, the fluid and curvy Streamliner. First introduced in a sleek limited edition chronograph, followed by a time-only model this year, it made quite an entrance on the scene. Now, the Streamliner Flyback Chronograph comes back with a typically-Moser “Funky Blue” fumé dial and in the permanent collection. And it looks stunning, as you can see in our video review.

Our picks of the best Hublot watches of 2020, including some Black Magic, beautiful bracelets and modish millennials

best Hublot watches of 2020Over the last few years we’ve seen lots of brands turn to their archives as inspiration for new watches. Heritage is very, very popular. But what if you don’t have a century or more of archives to dig through in search of exciting designs? What if your brand was only founded in 1980? For Hublot, celebrating their 40th anniversary this year, that hasn’t been a problem. Perhaps thanks to having such a legendary innovator as Jean-Claude Biver at the helm for so many years has seen that philosophy ingrained into the very fibre of the brand. Innovation has been at the core of what Hublot has done for a long time. From their R&D sharing partnerships with brands like Ferrari, to their pioneering approach to new watchmaking materials, Hublot hasn’t looked back because they’ve been too busy moving forwards.  In the year of their 40th anniversary, Hublot hasn’t wavered, releasing a number of novelties that explore new concepts, materials and movements. The Big Bang Unico Sky Blue is part of a one-two colour punch that is peak Hublot

Hublot Big Bang Unico Sky BlueThe ubiquity of blue this year has not gone unnoticed, with almost every brand hopping onto the trend in the hope of convincing more consumers to buy their watches. Hublot’s direction in the colour chosen for the Hublot Big Bang Unico Sky Blue is not a case of trend-following. It’s yet more proof of the brand reading the room – where suddenly bright colours are more popular than ever, thanks to the gloomy global 2020 mood – and turning the freshness factor up to 11. Instead of just another blue dial, Hublot brings an entirely new shade of the colour to the market – going so far as to incorporate it into the case as well as the dial. Through their use of innovative materials, the brand has brought us a Sky Blue take on their Unico watch that evokes a city of gears floating in the sky and clouds above. The watch is 42mm of robust ceramic and features a self-winding flyback column wheel chronograph movement manufactured in-house. It may seem like a party on the outside, with its youthful sky blue exterior, but make no mistake — it means business inside, providing one of the most unique and…

The Hublot Big Bang Millennial Pink in this video sure is pretty, but is it pink, per se?

Hublot Big Bang Millennial PinkEditor’s note: In case you’re wondering, yes! This is the ‘pink’ watch we’ve been hanging to see in the metal, if not just to contrast the real-life shade with the renderings in the press release. And, do we still call it pink? Well, Thor does, as you’ll see from the opening par. But I don’t. This is light beige. Nude. Flesh. Champagne. If it is indeed pink, it’s the palest, duskiest pink I’ve ever seen. It’s no less compelling for the tonal shift, in fact it becomes even more unusual. I don’t know about you, but there’s something about this shade that makes it hard to look away. Read on, but better still, check out the video.  Okay, I’m saying it. I. WANT. A. PINK. WATCH. I’m not sure what that says about me, but the skin-toned pink on the Hublot Big Bang Millennial Pink is so delicious that I’m close to using expletives. Describe it to someone and be warned: you will not have the same reaction, like me when I read the brief. Yet, you will see it quite clearly in this video, this idiosyncratic blend — of the toughness with the candy fluff pink of children’s teddy bears…
