The Collector’s Series – Andrew and His H. Moser & Cie. Pioneer Centre Seconds with Midnight Blue Dial
Today I’m talking with a long-time friend about his H. Moser & Cie. Pioneer with a striking blue dial; Andrew McUtchen. You might know him as the co-founder of Time+Tide, but also co-founder of the Fatherhood, and he’s what I’d call a true watch buddy. After a career at GQ Australia, he was crazy enough to try and make a living as a watch blogger (we have something in common here…) and he loves to wear his beloved H. Moser & Cie Pioneer Centre Seconds Midnight Blue Dial on a custom Kudu strap. According to the Aussie, H. Moser & Cie. is “sizzle and steak. And fries. And a funny waiter, too!” No clue what he means by that, but let’s find out.

Almost a year to the day since Dave made headlines at the annual Brit Awards for his heartfelt performance of hit single Black, Britain’s hottest rapper has got the watch world excited about his wristwear once again. At the Brits, he was wearing head to toe Louis Vuitton by Virgil Abloh with a rose-gold Audemars Piguet Royal Oak on his wrist. One year on, he was pictured all dressed up with nowhere to go in lockdown with a Patek Philippe 5168G in “khaki green” strapped to his wrist. Given his wardrobe in the shot, I do not think there could be a better pairing than this wildly coveted Patek Phillipe Aquanaut 5168G. The “green grenade” Aquanaut in white gold really matches the military vibes of those green cargo pants, too. The 5168G Aquanaut is definitely more of a subtle flex with only collectors and enthusiasts really aware of the elite station of the watch. To the mainstream masses, an Aquanaut is far less discernible than its older Nautilus sibling. It is a playful exercise in stealth wealth with white gold appearing like stainless steel on the surface. Considering rhodium is utilised in creating white gold, it is actually the most…

Confession time: I do not have the largest wrists in the world. Last time I checked, my wrist circumference came in not far above six inches. That being said, I wear watches ranging from 32mm to 43mm in diameter because, as I have explained before, it really is more about lug-to-lug when it comes to a perfect fit. Nevertheless, more often than not, the lug-to-lug length I am looking for comes with references that measure in at 40mm or below. To better assist watch buyers like me who prefer more classically proportioned watches, I have put together a list of 10 of the best watches under 40mm in diameter listed in our NOW Buying Guide. Let’s get into it… Kurono Mori It is no secret I am a huge fan of the Kurono brand. The (now sold out) Kurono Mori pictured above is from my personal collection, a watch I truly love to wear. Aside from the gorgeous Japanese art-deco inspired design language and their approachable pricing, my favourite thing about Kurono watches are that none of the references have been produced over 38mm in diameter. The Mori is 37mm and boasts an exquisite polished finishing to its case and…
Yet another regrettable effect of COVID is that, over the last twelve months, it’s stopped most of the watch community from experiencing timepieces in the metal. Thankfully, that’s starting to change in Australia as, with the pandemic increasingly under control, watch events are starting to happen once again. One of the first public events is the TAG Heuer x Porsche pop-up in Chadstone, Melbourne this week. The pop-up will be there until March 14 and is celebrating the recently announced partnership between the two brands, which are united by their respective Carrera products. As well as a very nice Porsche 911 Carrera on display, TAG Heuer are also showing a great range of vintage and modern Carrera references in the space, documenting the history of the collection as a racing chronograph for the gentleman driver. So if you’re in Melbourne and have some spare time this weekend, it’s definitely worth checking out. As a sweetener, TAG Heuer are also offering a free gift to Time+Tide readers at their Chadstone boutique for the duration of the pop-up with every watch purchased. Just mention “Time+Tide” to the boutique staff in order to receive your mystery gift. Have a great weekend and here’s…
It doesn’t feel like that long ago since Lewis Hamilton became the most decorated F1 driver of all time, winning his seventh world championship in November after a COVID-disrupted but nevertheless enjoyable 2020 season. Now, with less than a month until the 2021 calendar kicks off in Bahrain, there is no shortage of things to get excited about. Seeing Aussie Daniel Ricciardo and Brit Lando Norris team up together for McLaren has many frothing at the bit; equally the new series of Netflix’s Drive To Survive is bound to fire up our engines; but naturally it’s the timepieces planted on the drivers’ wrist come podium time that really have us on the edge of our seats. Time+Tide’s resident petrolhead Fergus Nash has given you an extensive rundown of what watches to expect to see in F1 in 2021, but for watch enthusiasts in the UK only, there’s a late addition to the grid. Indeed, after a speedy announcement of a different kind tying the knot with Porsche last month, TAG Heuer has now unveiled a special edition Formula 1 piece in line with the chequered flags being waved in Bahrain (quite literally when you see the dial). Considering a TAG…
