Editor’s note: Earlier this week, we asked a question on Instagram stories, what is your favourite Omega Bond watch from the last 25 years? Imma jump in here just to say, uh, wut? Where is the Spectre Seamaster 300 Limited Edition (my clear favourite Bond watch)? Where is Pierce’s watches? Any of them! It seems you either have short memories, or a serious penchant for the Planet Ocean. Or, more broadly speaking, a preference for the new, because these were the top 5, including a Number 1 that hasn’t even been seen on the screen yet! Really? OK, OK. Hey, we don’t stack these things, we just report the news. Over to you, James – Andrew It’s Bond Week here at T+T, and I’ve been shaking, not stirring, my martinis for the last few days – partly to celebrate the British super spy, and partly because Melburnians have once again been relegated to the confines of our stately homesteads (one bedroom apartment for me) … thanks ISO. Much like a car manufacturer does when it designs a brand new engine, TAG Heuer are making sure that their flagship self-winding chronograph movement, the Calibre Heuer 02, finds its way into every chrono they’ve released this year. And just days after letting us know that their three in-demand limited edition chronographs equipped with the accomplished movement are still available for pre-order, the La Chaux-de-Fonds watchmaker has gone and dropped more bombshells in the shape of not one, but four entirely new Carreras. Called the Carrera Chrono Sport, these steely racers have scored a host of completely novel features and yes, you guessed it – the Calibre Heuer 02 powers them all. The case The redesigned polished stainless steel cases of the Chronos are not for the faint of heart or slight of wrist – they measure 44mm across and approximately 16mm thick. However, thanks to shorter, lyre-style lugs, according to the watchmaker, these timepieces wear comfortably on the wrist. Anyone who’s familiar with modern TAGs will instantly recognise the familiar pump-style pushers and large multifaceted crown (hewn from 18k rose gold in the Ref.CBN2A5A model), and we’re quite glad TAG has stuck with this combo, as they have been…
“Is it East versus West/Or man against man?” That was the question memorably posed by Survivor in the smash hit from the Rocky IV soundtrack, Burning Heart. And it’s pertinent to this week’s celebrity death match, too. Representing truth, justice and the American way, in a fetching pair of shorts bedecked with stars and stripes, is President Donald Trump. Glowering with menace in the red corner, meanwhile, is Vladimir Putin, who’s still nonplussed over the fact that this showdown can’t be settled by his favoured medium ( judo and/or electoral manipulation). Instead, this clash of the superpowers will be fought out in a horological fashion as Time+Tide casts its critical eye over the watches of two of the most powerful men in the world. 5 watches from Donald Trump’s watch collection Donald Trump has been famously touchy about the size of his hands ever since Graydon Carter, the former editor of Vanity Fair magazine, described him as a “short-fingered vulgarian” in Spy magazine way back in the early 1990s. “Like so many bullies, Trump has skin of gossamer,” Carter wrote in a 2015 editor’s letter in Vanity Fair. “To this day, I receive the occasional envelope from Trump. Well, there it is. Our home state of Victoria records its highest-ever day of coronavirus cases, and lockdown is reimposed. I guess it’s back to Rotten Tomatoes to suss out a new binging schedule. On a serious note, it’s a really difficult time for many Aussies, and we would appreciate your thoughts and prayers (maybe direct the prayers to the Aussies with cooped up young kids, like Luke Martin, Luke Benedictus and me; we have 11 between us, all under 6) as we contemplate how the heck we’re going to tackle home schooling for a second time! On the movie list might just be a whole lot of Bond movies. Because this week just gone certainly has me in the mood. Kenyon, Nick Kenyon revealed his innermost thoughts about the new Bond watch in a long video with some seriously sumptuous footage of the watch. And then we followed up with Nick Gould’s epic breakdown of every Bond watch ever. In other news, we’ve decided to reward those who support us with any watch sales with a complimentary club membership. Anybody who purchases a watch (over $1500) will receive a numbered Erika’s Originals Club Strap and 12-month membership worth $129.…
