FRIDAY WIND DOWN: Featuring the best Insta comment thread of 2020, Post Malone's watch collection and we go Into The Wild
Welcome back to the Friday Wind Down, website edition! We don’t know how long (a couple of years perhaps?) we’ve kept the Wind Down exclusively for subscribers, delivered hot to their inbox on Friday afternoon. But we’ve received enough requests for the old days, when it was delivered just as hot, just as heavy, via the website, right as you are likely taking your Chardonnay or Pale Ale off the ice for a refreshing knockoff beverage. Well, the old days are new again — we are back to the future. In the comeback edition of the Friday Wind Down we haven’t done things by halves. We have the best moments of the week in watches that was. Jedly’s Deadly Clapbacks Australian collector @jedly1 had his featured watch in the closest episode of Crime or Sublime, which debated whether or not NATO straps are appropriate on high-end dress watches. Voters nudged the result to ‘Crime’ by just 52% to 48%. Jedly’s Patek Philippe was featured on the Instagram photo announcing the results. Commenters came out in droves to let their feelings be known. And Jedly wasn’t having it. His shutdowns of various anti-NATO sentiment were nothing short of Shakespearean. Please see…

GQ just dropped the latest video from their On The Rocks series, with the face-tatted hip-hop heavyweight that is Post Malone. His watch collection is nothing short of unreal – it’s a “hypebeasts” delight … which suits Posty down to the ground. But as is the case with just about everything in life, not all his watches are created equal. Some watches are far more rockstar than others, so we’ve rated them all: Rolex Day-Date 40 Rockstar Rating: 2/10 OK, now that we’ve seen Mr Malone’s full collection of timepieces, we can definitely forgive his past indiscretion of rocking a solid 18k yellow gold Rolex Day-Date 40 with aftermarket diamond bezel and diamond indices that makes him look like an extra on Uncut Gems. Judging from his comments in the new video, he’s realised that if you want to keep your wrist icier than an igloo, factory gem-setting is where it’s at. Hublot Spirit Of Big Bang Moonphase 42mm Ref.647.NX.7371.LR.1233 Rockstar Rating: 8/10 There are very few people that can pull off this overtly pink Hublot Spirit of Big Bang … and Posty is definitely one of them. The man has always had an eccentric flair, and this watch is…
Some colourful watches are so loud they threaten to leave you with tinnitus. But is a brightly hued timepiece just a harmless switch-up that offers a bit of fun and welcome variety? Or is a super colourful watch an unforgivably gaudy choice that’s designed for look-at-me narcissists and the stylistically insane? Luke Benedictus and Nick Kenyon argue it out. Luke Benedictus – The For Argument OK, let’s do a little experiment. Look down at the clothes that you’re wearing right now. If you’re anything like 90 per cent of the male population, I predict the overriding palette is glum. Personally, I find myself wearing two different shades of navy “enlivened” with a pair of black shoes. Somehow my wardrobe has become the tonal equivalent of listening to Joy Division in the rain. This isn’t unusual either. As men we tend to get imprisoned into blue, grey, black and beige – perhaps a dash of maroon when we’re feeling really crazy. Timidly, we subscribe to the sartorial advice of the political satirist P.J. O’Rourke: “Never wear anything that panics the cat.” How do we break free of this tyranny? Well, the most accessible solution — without looking like a Teletubby — is…
