Piaget Altiplano Ultimate Concept – a new Mind-Boggling World Record for Thinness at just 2mm

Now we see quite a few spectacular timepieces every year, sometimes when they’re about to be launched and sometimes when there’s still a lot of work before it’s ready to be launched. But what we got to see at Piaget the other day, was simply unheard of, and properly mind-boggling. Piaget has created a watch with a thickness of just 2.00 millimetre. And I’m not talking about the movement, the entire watch is 2mm thick. That’s thinner than the leather strap on your watch, thinner than a Swiss five Franc coin.

WHO TO FOLLOW: @PBandWatches (and #MrsPBandWatches)

We recently caught up with longtime watch instagrammer @PBANDWATCHES about his passion for the finer things in life, and were joined by his lovely wife, ‘Mrs PB’, to hear her perspective on the crazy hobby that is watch collecting. Hi, Mr PB, what’s your daily watch and why? I don’t really have one particular daily watch, but I probably grab my Pam 510 or Sub more than any others. It could be because both are no-date watches and very quick to set, but I find myself wearing them often. How do you unwind? Make myself an Old Fashioned, grab a nice cigar and sit by the fire in the backyard. The fact that it’s currently -22 degrees outside right now and I can’t unwind is about to make me go crazy. Have you got a favourite? My collection casts a vast net because I collect off emotions. Patek 5164A, AP Royal Oak, Breitling Navi, Rolex Datejust II, MeisterSinger Salthora (jump hour) just to name a few. My…

VIDEO: Just what is SIHH anyway?

In a few hours, Andrew and I are getting on a plane for the long (long) haul to Geneva — where, bright and early on Monday morning, we will head to the Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie, or SIHH to its friends. It’s an acronym you’re going to be hearing a heck of a lot about over the next week, and if you’re new to the whole watch situation you just might be scratching your head as to what it is, and why it matters. Well, here’s Andrew’s explanation of last year’s Salon. SIHH 2018 will be pretty similar, only with lots of new watches. So, not really that similar. Anyway, enjoy and stay tuned to the site, our Facebook, Instagram and YouTube feeds for all the action, as it happens.
