EVENT: Patek Philippe Takes New York (and blows RedBar Group co-founder Adam Craniotes away in the process)

Editor’s Note: Sometimes it’s the first line of a story that grabs you, but in this case, it was the last. The very last sentence in fact. Adam Craniotes, co-founder of RedBar Group and longtime friend of Time+Tide (go on a virtual tour of NYC with the big man here, just don’t drive home afterwards, that Bloody Mary looks bloody strong) recently penned a review of the Patek Philippe: The Art of Watches Grand Exhibition and it concludes with these words: All in all, it’s hard to overstate just how incredible – and important – this exhibition is.  At a time when the industry is reeling from a worldwide economic downturn, buyer reluctance in the face of years of out of control price hikes, and indifference from a new generation of consumers, the Art of Watches Grand Exhibition makes a compelling case for traditional watchmaking as a relevant exercise to novices and seasoned collectors alike. The occasional tremors of FOMO (fear of missing out, on horological majesty) that had afflicted all in the T+T office since the exhibition was announced swelled in my chest to full blown, full body envy. I had it bad. The exhibition was incredible, important. So, damn. How could we transport…

Review – Graham Chronofighter Vintage Nose Art Ltd. – Aviation Pinups on your wrist

Being known as a brand far from conventions, Graham has specialized itself in creating aviation-inspired pieces, with quite a bold design. One can’t denied that these watches are “special”, yet not void of a clear coolness. As already having in the collection some vintage- and military-inspired pieces – see here – Graham has decided to add something that is part of fighting aircrafts’ history to the Chronofighter: “Nose Art“. Pinups on the wrist, with the new Graham Chronofighter Vintage Nose Art Ltd… And once again, it’s audacious.

VIDEO: Two couples explain why they wear Panerai, you can too at #MyPanerai

You’re never quite sure how a film shoot is going to turn out. On paper, things can be obvious. Both of the couples that are featured here had professed to us an enduring love for Panerai. But it was only when we started exploring that attachment, and asking more detailed questions about it, that things took an interesting turn. How did we even get here, though? The thought process from our side was to address this notion of the Panerai ‘tribe’ – the deeper than average connection many Panerai wearers seem to have to their watches, and to the Panerai story behind them. Is it different for men and women? We asked our passionate subjects to complete this sentence, “My Panerai is…..” This is what they said. If you’d like to share your answer, we’d love to hear it. Use the hashtag #mypanerai on Instagram and Facebook. We’ll be sharing photos all week.
