GONE IN 60 SECONDS: Smoke and mirrors – the Hublot Big Bang All Black Sapphire

hublot-big-bang-unico-all-black-sapphire-1Ten years ago Hublot pioneered the black-on-black-on-black look in watches. Sure, it made it hard to read the time, but when your watch looked that cool who could care? They called it (appropriately enough) ‘All Black’ and this year they’ve released a number of special limited editions to celebrate. The standout is this not-so-stealthy Big Bang. Instead of PVD or black ceramic, Hublot has created a Dark Crystal Big Bang out of black sapphire, creating a blacked-out watch that’s surprisingly lively on the wrist, full of mirror-like reflections and smoky finishes. Just don’t expect it to fly under the radar. Hublot Big Bang Unico All Black Sapphire Australian pricing and availability The Hublot Big Bang Unico All Black Sapphire, limited to 500 pieces, $81,300.

EVENT: 6 standout, and frighteningly affordable, watches from the worn&wound Wind-Up Watch Fair 2016

3001801_farer-watch-smart-black-leather-1Editor’s note: From where we stand, the Wind-Up Watch Fair 2016, run by the boys from worn&wound seemed to kick a lot of ass. Over 15,000 people attended, the socials were buzzing with wristshots of rarely seen watch brands and there were new conversations being had around value, quality and the thrilling proximity to provenance a Fair with smaller indie brands can offer. Frankly, we wished we were there. Amid an avalanche of stories, almost daily, of the plummeting sales of luxury timepieces , and with SIHH opening its doors to the public for the first time, while also inviting indie brands to display, it’s interesting to observe the lower price segment of the market in such a strong growth phase, thanks to excellent new events like the Wind-Up. Cheers to the co-founder of worn&wound Zach Weiss for filing this eyewitness report.   worn&wound’s Wind-Up Watch Fair 2016 was a tremendous success. The 3-day long event pulled in over 15,000 attendees ranging from seasoned watch collectors to people just passing by, many of who left with a new watch or strap on their wrist, or one in the mail. This makes it the largest fair in the US and one of the largest globally, something…

Business News: TAG Heuer Opens Silicon Valley Office In Partnership With Intel

Well, there goes the neighborhood. Earlier this week, with little to no public fanfare, TAG Heuer became the first Swiss watch company to open a Silicon Valley office. Setting up shop on Intel’s Santa Clara, California, campus, TAG now has about a dozen R&D employees cranking away on the Connected Watch (and maybe other things too) and even hired away Tom Foldesi, a former Senior Director at Intel’s New Devices Group. If nothing else, this is a serious statement that TAG Heuer and its digital products are here to stay.

Introducing: The Chopard L.U.C GMT One, Now In Rose Gold (With Live Pics And Pricing)

It was just last week that we showed you the latest collection from Chopard, a series of worldtimers and a new GMT to go with them. All of these watches are part of the in-house L.U.C line, but while there were a few choices of metal and dial colors for the worldtimer, the new GMT was only shown in stainless steel. I was told that a rose gold version would quickly follow and, well, here it is. Meet the L.U.C GMT One in all its rosy glory.
