Hands On With The L.U.C Time Traveller One, Chopard’s First Worldtimer

This week in London, auction house Philips played host to a special exhibition commemorating the 20th Anniversary of the creation of Chopard’s first in-house movement; the calibre L.U.C 1.96. It was also the perfect setting for the introduction of two new series into Chopard’s L.U.C family; the L.U.C GMT One and the L.U.C Time Traveller One. Today we’re taking a closer look at the latter.

Accessible Luxury as defined by the new Frederique Constant Classics Moonphase Automatic

“Accessible Luxury” is, as you might know now, since we explained it to you several times, Frederique Constant’s motto. Well, besides the marketing gimmick behind it, there’s actually much more. At FC, this is not just an idea to print on brochures, but a real way to build watches. The idea is simple: offering a lot for the (little) money you’re about to spend in a watch. And this new Frederique Constant Classics Moonphase Automatic is just about that.

Introducing: The Jaeger-LeCoultre Atmos 568 By Marc Newson, A New Variation On A Personal Favorite

It is a happy day in my world when a new Marc Newson Atmos clock arrives, and today is shaping up to be a very nice one indeed. The world-renowned designer has been working with Jaeger-LeCoultre since 2008 and has released a number of collaboration Atmos clocks over the years. They’re always a little bit technical, a little bit ethereal, and there’s no way you could ever mistake one for anything else. The latest, the Atmos 568, is very much in the same mold but with enough newness to keep me interested.

Introducing the Jaeger-LeCoultre Atmos 568 by Marc Newson

Marc Newson has been a prolific designer of timepieces, ranging from wristwatches to sleek hourglasses. The Australian has had a particularly productive relationship with Jaeger-LeCoultre, having designed two earlier Atmos clocks – the Atmos 561 and more complicated Atmos 566 – as well as one-off timepieces for charity. Best known for the sleek, riveted Lockheed Lounge – now […]

VIDEO: We took the VC Overseas collection to an island paradise and It. Was. Glorious.

vc-overseas-sliderWas it really necessary? To take a journey involving two flights (one of them aboard a very small plane) to a tropical island somewhere between Sydney and New Zealand that, at any given time, has a maximum of 750 people on it to test out the new Vacheron Constantin Overseas Collection? I would argue that, because Lord Howe Island occupies the very special timezone of UTC +10:30, and is one of the 37 timezones displayed on the gorgeous dial of the World Time, that it wasn’t just necessary… it was meant to be. The beauty of the location – aside from its outrageous natural beauty, good Lord! – was that it provided us the perfect testing ground to put all three new Overseas models, and their conveniently interchangeable strap options, through their paces. Fine dining and fruity cocktails in the restaurant of Capella Lodge, tick – hello tuxedo. A completely deserted beach, our very large outdoor gym for a chronograph session. And a glorious ex-volcano / mountain was our chance to get on top of the world for a view of the World Time. Before you say it, let me jump in, yes it’s a tough job, but somebody has to do it, right?

#TBT Omega Railmaster 39mm – A Modern Classic You Should Buy Now

Omega Railmaster Wait a second, the Omega Railmaster is far too new to be featured on #TBT! Well, for sure, the discontinued watch from Omega is not so far removed from our mindscape, but it is gone. I had a recent visit from family and my Dad, who is seemingly a master in finding overlooked but […]

SPOTTED! BY AG: Dispatch 1, October 2016

andy-green-spotted-1Editor’s Note: It will surprise no-one to learn that Andy Green spends a significant amount of time each month in cafés, handling watches – of fairly staggering scope and value – and meeting people. That was pretty much our brief to him when we started working with Andy officially back in the early days of Time+Tide. Go forth. Get buzzed. Take photos. We called the position the ‘Community Engagement Officer’. Whether or not we can take credit for creating the single origin snuffling watch monster he’s become, decorated almost daily in mouthwatering wristcandy, is debatable. But the fact is, we may have, and we feel it’s time we published his diary. Passed on his stories. They’re too good not to share. The column is called Spotted! by AG The idea is that it’s the people and the timepieces he spotted in recent times. If you’re wondering about the exclamation mark, it’s intentional. Have you met Andy in person? There will be passion. If you want to be #spottedbyag you know what to do, drop him a line at andy.green@timeandtidewatches.com We’ll look forward to reading about you right here in months to come! Thanks Andy, and all in our wider community for making…

Introducing: The Baume & Mercier Clifton Perpetual Calendar

Baume & Mercier’s main stock in trade are design-forward timepieces, playing solidly in the quality-mechanical, bang-for-the-buck domain.  However, the company historically has also, albeit somewhat periodically, offered high complications as well, and in the Richemont era this tradition has continued, with timepieces as varied as tourbillons and, most recently, a very interesting five-minute repeater pocket watch being offered as well.  The latest timepiece in this tradition is the Clifton Perpetual Calendar – a true perpetual in a gold case, which runs somewhat counter to the recent trend to offer high complications in a steel case, for maximum accessibility.
