This is the best Hamilton watch of the year, hands-down. This is obviously and enormously clear. An inverse panda dial chronograph was always going to be a fan favorite, and a well-balanced panda with just enough of its own personality that it stand out from similar chronographs. Well, that makes for a very interesting watch.
Any conversation about watches that offer good value for money is bound to include NOMOS. It’s been a core tenet of the brand since the very beginning and every year we get some new release that shocks us with its price tag to gears-and-hands ratio. With the new Club Campus though, NOMOS is trying to push it even further, offering a fun watch specifically targeted at first-time watch owners receiving their timepieces for special occasions. Oh, and they’re awesome.
A few days ago, at the opening of Baselworld 2017, we’ve been introducing to you the star of the show for Seiko collectors, the super-vintage, super-faithful and super-cool reedition of the Seiko Diver 62Mas, under the reference SLA017. This watch is superb, but it has two issues: a rather hefty price and a limited production. So, for those with a smaller budget or those who won’t be able to get the limited edition, Seiko will also have a more accessible and more modern interpretation of the iconic 62Mas, the Seiko Prospex Diver SPB051 and SPB053.
Breguet’s latest dress watch, the Classique 7147, is so Breguet it hurts. It’s absolutely the most traditional watch I’ve seen this week, and I truly believe that only Breguet could introduce a watch like this.The silver plated guilloché dial with Roman numerals has been replaced by one in radiant white grand feu enamel with painted black Breguet numerals, and a poetic minute track. It’s quite simple, really.
In early 2017, Bulgari unveiled a new addition to its emblematic Octo collection. True to the designs codes of the collection, (in particular a circle framed by an octagon), the lines of Roma have been smoothed featuring only 58 facets instead of the traditional 110 of the regular models. The Roma captures the traditional chic of the collection with urban, universal appeal. Inspired by a bold and nonconformist vision of watchmaking, the Roma is now enhanced with a luminescent tourbillon movement, revealing its inner workings in complete transparency. Bulgari has had a slew of new releases this year, including the world’s thinnest automatic wristwatch in titanium, which is super cool in the metal. But another addition to the Italian house’s collection is a brand new Serpenti, one that you can customize and order online and then have delivered to the closest Bulgari boutique.
Hot on the heels of the new Tudor Heritage Black Bay Steel, is the Heritage Black Bay Steel And Gold, the reference 79733N. That’s right, you heard it here first people, two-tone is back. And no one is safe, not even your faithful Tudor dive watch. The Black Bay S&G, as it is so lovingly called, is pretty much the same Black Bay that you are familiar with, but with some aesthetic updates and an interesting take on the two-tone treatment.
In the months, weeks and days leading up to Baselworld the speculation around what novelties Rolex would release reached a near fever pitch. Pundits made predictions about what the new Sea-Dweller would look like, and if we’d see extensions added to the Daytona and Yacht-Master family. But no one predicted an updated Sky-Dweller… Originally released in 2012 the Sky-Dweller has always been something of a niche proposition. Highly complex and only offered in precious metals, the dressy Rolex lacked the instant cachet of the Professional series. Well, with the addition of competitively priced Rolesor models (the steel and yellow gold has a Swiss RRP of 16,300 CHF and steel with a white gold bezel is 13,700 CHF) we expect the Sky-Dweller will rocket to the top of a lot of people’s interest lists. It’s not just the fact that Rolex has democratised the Sky-Dweller somewhat that has people interested, they’ve also given it a facelift, lengthening the hands, replacing numerals with indices and blending the 24-hour disc into the dial. All this adds up to a Sky-Dweller that looks and wears differently to the original, and we’re pretty sure Rolex has another hit on their hands.

It’s not that Rolex, Omega, Patek Philippe, and the like are doing anything wrong – they’re showing a ton of great watches this year, believe us – it’s just that they represent a certain perspective and approach. But a whole crop of independent watchmakers are offering an alternative take.
