Panerai LAB-ID PAM700 – Pure Concentrate of Technology

A common cliché is to let engineering and innovation in the hands of Germans / Swiss and design to Italians. Justified or not, you probably heard that dozens of times. Yet, for once, we’ll let Italians their chance to show their skills in terms of innovation… And to be honest, they might have something here. Indeed, the new Panerai LAB-ID PAM700, presented at the SIHH 2017, is simply a concentrate of Panerai’s technology. 50 years warranty, self-lubricated parts, almost no jewels in the movement, carbon everywhere. See, Italians can also jump into technology.

On the left bank of the Rhone, a scant 10km away from Geneva’s city center ,sits Patek Philippe’s Home at Plan-Les-Ouates. “Ouates” is pronounced “whu-at” phonetically, lends the municipality an easy nickname derived from a phonetic pun symbolic of what the region has come to represent – Plan-Les-Watch; for Patek…

#TBT – Junghans Bundeswehr Chronograph

As most of you know we try to bring a diverse selection of vintage watches to #TBT week after week. LIST: 15 Instagram wristshots that are better than yours (and why)

If you’re feeling brave, type ‘wristies’ into the Google machine, and you’ll be rewarded with an eye-opening array of results. Who knew, for example, that they were a type of fingerless gloves? Fascinating stuff. Those are not the wristies we’re focusing on today – nor will we be broaching any other varieties, thank you very much. So in an effort to make the process a touch more sciency, we’ve combed Instagram in its entirety (it certainly feels that way), to compile 15 of our favourite shots. Once harvested, these clustered themselves quite naturally into five distinct categories which we’ve broken down just for you. Look and learn, people . The Detail Shot Probably the best excuse for taking a wristshot is that you find yourself wearing a beautiful watch, and want to show the world. Perhaps it’s a vintage piece you’ve unearthed, or maybe you managed to snag a limited edition while the great unwashed languish on the waitlist for the next 18 months.…

Recommended Reading: Laurent Ferrier Talks About His History Racing Cars

If you thought you loved Laurent Ferrier solely for his incredibly refined timepieces, be prepared to love him even more. Ferrier, who spent time at Patek Philippe before opening his own independent manufacture, continues to stun and amaze us with his beautiful creations like this year’s Galet Tourbillon with open dial and Montre École. But something that you may or may not know is that Ferrier used to race cars. Like, serious cars. In fact, he raced the 24 hours of Le Mans in 1979…and came in third place. Yeah, this guy is seriously cool.

In-Depth: Two Sweet Vintage Pocket Watches From Girard-Perregaux With Balance Springs To Die For (Part 2)

Last month, in Part I of this story, I took a look at a vintage Girard-Perregaux pocket watch with a very unusual spherical balance spring. As I mentioned back then, the 19th century was something of a golden age for the evolution of precision timekeeping, and it was also a time when what you might call classical precision timekeeping was born, eventually flourished, and then gradually declined.
