VIDEO: Apples to Apples episode 2, Panerai vs Cartier – the big guns

Apples-Apples-Cartier-PAnerai-Slider-2In the first episode of Apples to Apples, I brought the proverbial boys to the yard by surprising Felix with a milkshake in the form of two very similar looking worldtimer watches by Frederique Constant and Baume & Mercier. To be completely honest, I thought Felix out-argued me. I thought he won. The results of the social media poll, where we opened the floor to you, told a very different story. And so, the scene is set for the series to play out. We flip. We make our cases. We hand over to you to be the final judge. In episode two, it’s a battle of wristborn titans; the mighty Panerai Luminor Submersible vs the Cartier Santos 100.

Business News: Richemont Will Replace Four Brand CEOs In The Coming Months

According to reports by Bloomberg and Reuters, four Richemont brand CEOs will be replaced over the coming months. This isn’t the first big Richemont executive news to drop recently, with the conglomerate eliminating the group CEO position and elevating multiple brand CEOs to board positions back in November. The latest changes will effect Dunhill, Jaeger-LeCoultre, Piaget, and Vacheron Constantin.

Richemont’s Big Reshuffle – 4 CEOs Leaving (JLC, Vacheron, Piaget, Dunhill)

This was predictable. After the announcement by Richemont of first shakeups, by abolishing the CEO and CFO roles, by appointing Jérôme Lambert as head of operations, by appointing Georges Kern as head of watchmaking, marketing and digital and already scheduling several drastic actions for the group, it’s now time for the big reshuffle at the head of the brands. The CEOs of Jaeger-LeCoultre, Vacheron Constantin, Piaget and Dunhill will be out in the coming weeks.

Editors’ Picks: The Best Ladies’ Watches Of SIHH 2017

Last week we showed you our top picks for the best everyday watches from the 2017 Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie (SIHH). Sure, there was some debate over what exactly qualifies as “everyday,” but the spread of watches included both the simple and the complicated, as well as a mix of styles. Today we’ve got another round-up for you – this time of our favorite ladies’ watches from the show. And, before anyone asks, no, the watches selected aren’t all explicitly made for women or marketed to them, but that shouldn’t stop anyone in 2017. Without further ado, let’s get into it.

Vault V1 Watch

There are two parts to understanding what the Vault V1 watch is all about, and one is the way in which the time is displayed, while the other is how the time is set. What you first need to know is that setting the minutes on the Vault V1 watch involves rotating the full movement itself, while setting the hours involves rotating the dial itself.

Just Because: A 3D-Printed Perpetual Calendar From OTHR And Studio Yonoh, A Stylish Timekeeper Without Any Gears Or Springs

When I say “perpetual calendar,” this probably isn’t what comes to mind. You’re likely imagining something like the ceramic Royal Oak Perpetual calendar or the more traditional Patrimony Perpetual. But this little desk-top device of the same name is a manual timekeeper that the user sets each morning and then references throughout the day. It’s called a perpetual calendar because, in theory, it will work forever. The Perpetuum Calendar comes to us from 3D-printed design firm OTHR and Spanish designers Studio Yonoh and it’s about as cool a balance spring–free perpetual calendar as you’ll find anywhere.

Navigating The Grey Market: A Retail Expert Explains The Whys And Wherefores

Friends, colleagues, and clients have posed many questions about the grey market for fine timepieces over the years. Most recently, my post ‘A Cautionary Tale on Buying New Watches Online’ was met with quite a few comments, quite possibly leaving more questions than answers. Here are a few answers.

Brice Goulard’s Top 10 of the SIHH 2017

First one to pull the trigger was Xavier, with his Top 10 watches of the SIHH 2017. It was not fair to leave that task to him only, so I had to do the job too. Still, picking up my 10 favorite pieces of the Geneva-based fair was not easy. Not that there was not enough material this year – we’ve seen many interesting propositions, both dream-watches or more commercial offers – but it’s always difficult to set barriers. Whatever, here they are, my 10 favorite watches of the SIHH 2017 (plus a few special mentions, some watches or policies dear to my heat…)

SIHH 2017 Personal Perspectives: IWC

IWC offered a peek at the revamped Da Vinci before SIHH 2017, revealing a design decidedly more conventional than its predecessor. Large, round and classically styled, the new Da Vinci is attractive in the metal, with a diversity of models that are all comparatively reasonably priced, even the complicated models. All models feature swivelling lugs that help the […]
