As the SIHH is getting closer to us, some new watches are being introduced, but not only from the usual suspects (Richemont Group brands) but also from independent watchmakers that are exposing at the ‘Carré des Horlogers’. Christophe Claret is one of them, and as you might know, the brand is not shy in creating impressive piece of haute horlogerie. For their second participation to the SIHH, they come with a watch that could almost be seen as their ‘entry-level’, yet still fitted with the great expertise of this manufacture: the Christophe Claret Maestro.

It is usually sign of good things when a watch gets a nickname; just think about the “Paul Newman” Daytona or the Speedmaster “Ed White.” Seiko’s family of divers has also inspired many watch enthusiasts to come up with creative monikers, which explains why we are going to review the latest “Samurai” and “Turtle,” both iconic Japanese divers in their own rights. These two limited editions in a new “Blue Lagoon” colorway (references SRPB09 and SRPB11) are being officially released in February 2017, but we had the chance to handle some prototypes and to compare them with their beloved predecessors.
It seems that everyone is eager to dispense with the year of the mischievous Monkey and quickly usher in the year of the Fire Rooster. The Rooster is often attributed to have a civil virtue, good combat skills and military presence, courage and a sense of protection, as well as the unique ability to mark the rising of the sun through song. Will…
SIHH 2017 is around the corner, and our mailbox is filling up with pre-SIHH releases and under-embargo material. Somehow I feel all these pre-SIHH releases spoil the surprise aspect a bit, but all brands are craving for exposure of course. Big brands like IWC, Jaeger-LeCoultre, Panerai, A. Lange & Söhne, Audemars Piguet etc. will […]
Most of watch lovers might know that in a few days will be the first major watch event of the year, the SIHH 2017. On the sidelines of this massive event, some other brands, traditionally exposing at the Baselworld, are also benefiting from the traffic of journalists, collectors and retailers that the SIHH can drain. One of them is not what you can call small: TAG Heuer. In order to open the festivities of the Geneva Watch Fair 2017 (Hublot and Zenith, both part of the same group, will also expose there), here is the first novelty introduced, the TAG Heuer Carrera Heuer 01 Full Black Matt Ceramic.
Many buyers of fine mechanical watches possess a dreamy and nebulous notion that these precious timekeepers are “hand-made”. Watch manufacturers understandably do little to dispel that notion. The vast majority of watches produced today are not hand-made. At the top end of the market – where price tags are five or six figures – components are hand-finished and then hand-assembled, the […]
While we mortals take our time recovering from NYE, happy to simply roll our eyes at returning to work in clothes that are a little more snug than before all the mince pies, our thoughts should go out to the poor celebs. There’s no waddling around in stretchy pants for them, while finishing off the last few Ferrero Rocher. Instead, this is the time of year when they need to look as sleek and velvety as glistening otters, as awards season kicks off with the 74th Golden Globes, which took place just hours ago in Beverly Hills. It’s a circus of the highest order, full of drama, disappointment, outrageous wardrobe choices and speeches spiked with champagne-fuelled politics. But for nerds like us, it’s a simpler world. We can turn a blind eye all that, and view the spectacle in its purest form: as a prime opportunity for watchspotting. If you want to know who won Best Original Score, you’ve come to the wrong place. But here are the finalists for Most Creative Timepiece in a Red Carpet Scenario. Joel Edgerton We Australians love to see one of our own representing the land Down Under in Hollywood, and for our international readers who might not understand this village-like level of…
