IWC Pilot’s Watch Double Chronograph Edition Antoine De Saint Exupéry Hands-On

In collaboration with the Antoine de Saint-Exupéry Youth Foundation, Zenith released the tobacco brown-dialed IWC Pilot’s Watch Double Chronograph Edition “Antoine De Saint Exupéry” watch to honor the author of The Little Prince. Instantly recognizable as an IWC Pilot’s watch but with a subdued twist, it’s also the only rattrapante, aka double chronograph, in the pilot’s watch line.

LIST: The 8 best watches of 2016 – under $1000

best-under1k-slider“What watch should I buy for ___ dollars?” is the almighty question we hear day in and day out. And while there’s no simple answer, we thought we’d point you in the right direction with a ‘best of’ hit list in every thousand dollar interval from one to five over the next few days. We can’t possibly hit every single watch in each segment, but our goal is simple — to give our fellow enthusiasts a healthy set of options that fit a wide range of tastes and budgets. With that in mind, let’s kick things off with eight of the best for under a grand. Seiko Turtle Reissue SRPA21K OK, so this guy’s a total no-brainer – a reissue of Seiko’s classic (and now quite collectable) 6309 series day-date divers. The originals were in production from roughly 1976 to ’88, and this past year saw countless fans shouting “Shut up and take my money” as the numerous variants of the Turtle reissue sold out, time and time again. The line includes something for everyone, including a gilt-dial variant, all black, all blue, a very cool grey made-for-the-Thailand-market  Zimbe Turtle, and of course this one, the limited-release SRPA21K PADI-partnership blue-dialled model with pepsi bezel.…

Introducing: The Jaeger-LeCoultre Geophysic Tourbillon Universal Time

In anticipation of this year’s Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie (SIHH), Jaeger-LeCoultre has released a new addition to the Geophysic collection – the Tourbillon Universal Time. You may remember that back in September 2015 Jaeger-LeCoultre presented the original Geophysic Universal Time, but this year it has taken the watch a step further by adding a flying tourbillon. It’s actually the first time a worldtimer and a flying tourbillon have come together ever.

Found: An Original Chopard L.U.C 1860 With Caliber 1.96 From 1997

There are plenty of great watches that we tend to sort of forget about, only to suddenly rediscover them down the road with newfound amazement. This is exactly what happened to me at a dinner last month with a few French collectors when I saw an original Chopard L.U.C. While the caliber was announced in 1996, the watch was first retailed a year later and garnered immediate praise. Its movement was judged “probably the finest automatic movement being produced in Switzerland today” by Walt Odets on TimeZone and Swiss magazine Montres Passion/Uhrenwelt awarded it the “Watch of the Year.” Some 20 years later, I had the chance to spend a bit of time with this dress watch and I fell for it, all over again.

“What If” – The Laurent Ferrier Galet Square With My Dream Sector Dial

Yesterday, Brice wrote a piece about his own dream, a timepiece that is an answer to the question “What if… you could create your own dream watch?“. I must admit that his vision of a Panda Datograph in Steel was properly stunning. With that same question in mind, I imagined something different. Similar to yesterday’s dream watch, today’s “dream watch” will also be of significant quality (meaning price is not an object) and one that doesn’t exist. There’s one piece by Laurent Ferrier that I’m sure I’ll never be able to own. Sad, but true. And this brings us to the creation of this dream piece, a Laurent Ferrier Galet Square in Steel with that oh-so-lovely “Only Watch” sector dial (sort of).
