Up Close with the Tudor Pelagos LHD

Introduced just last month, the Tudor Pelagos LHD was a surprise, despite the expectant rumours in the weeks before its launch. The Pelagos LHD – that’s short for “Left Hand Drive” – is essentially a souped-up Pelagos, the 500m titanium dive watch that’s the modern counterpart to the retro Black Bay. Notably, the Pelagos LHD dials back the contemporary styling, replacing […]

Death to Gravity with the Corum Bubble 47 Flying Tourbillon Skull

At Baselworld 2015, an icon was back; the Corum Bubble – a watch that first came on the market in 2000, a watch with a unique bulb shape, large and thick, full of distortions but a watch that served a major role in the brand’s recent history. It seems that what is now the main cool factor of these older versions, meaning the countless and all unexpected limited to unique editions, is back – see this version for illustration. Today, the Corum Bubble send a fatal message to gravity, with the unique piece Flying Tourbillon Skull.

TAG Heuer Aquaracer 300 Caliber 5 Titanium WAY208C Watch Review

Revealed at Baselworld 2016, the TAG Heuer Aquaracer 300 Caliber 5 Titanium WAY208C reference seemed a fitting match for a trek up the canyon, whose rugged outcroppings are cleaved in two by the meandering waters of Clear Creek. This stealthy “desert diver” was a quiet addition to TAG Heuer’s 2016 Baselworld announcements.

ADVENT CALENDAR 2016: December 20 – The TAG Heuer Carrera Heuer-02T Tourbillon

tag-heuer-heuer-02tAh, the tourbillon! You should be so lucky to find one under your tree come Sunday morning. Dogma dictates that this little whirlwind is the holy grail of horology, created by only the most prestigious, exclusive and generally snooty brands in existence. Well, much like a little bit like Martin Luther nailing his 95 theses to the Wittenberg chapel door, Jean-Claude Biver’s refreshed TAG Heuer has released the Heuer-02T, a much more accessible take on the complication which goes a long way to democratising this once rarefied peak of high horology. And while this watch might not have quite the same impact on the world as the Protestant Reformation, it’s certainly shaking things up in up in Switzerland. Who should you buy this for: The TAG superfan in your life. Or someone who likes a good tourbillon. What’s the damage: A shade more than $20k might sound like a lot, but this is a freakin’ tourbillon, people. INSIGHT: What is the updated Rolex Superlative Chronometer Standard and why does it matter?

rolex-superlative-chronometer-detailsSince 1951, nearly every watch leaving Rolex’s Geneva facility has been a certified Chronometer, and from 1957 onwards, Rolex has been using the term ‘Superlative’ on their dials to describe that their watches don’t just meet Chronometer standards, but exceed them. Design purists might bemoan the resulting text-heavy dials that declare an Oyster to be ‘Superlative Chronometer Officially Certified’, but Rolex’s nigh-unimpeachable reputation for quality and accuracy has a lot invested in these words. In fact, in late 2015, the brand quietly updated their Superlative Chronometer Standards to make them even more stringent. Design purists might bemoan the resulting text-heavy dials that declare an Oyster to be ‘Superlative Chronometer Officially Certified’, but Rolex’s nigh-unimpeachable reputation for quality and accuracy has a lot invested in these words. If you were lucky enough to get your hands on a steel Daytona or a recent Datejust 41, Rolex guarantee your watch is accurate to -2/+2 seconds per day, after casing. Compare that to the -4/+6 per day for the uncased movement that COSC requires, or the 0/+5 Omega’s Master Certification. Rolex’s continued commitment to testing and accuracy doesn’t just show they recognise the importance of reliability, but that they deem it vital to be more accurate than the competition.…

Hands-On: The Bulgari Bulgari Lady Finissimo, The Manufacture’s First Ultra-Thin Tourbillon For Women

Last year we were introduced to the Bulgari Octo Finissimo Minute Repeater, which at the time was the world’s thinnest minute-repeater in production. Well, now Bulgari has added a ladies’ piece to the Finissimo Collection – the Bulgari Lady Finissimo. In fact, this is the first ultra-thin tourbillon produced for women by the brand (following on the Bulgari Octo Finissimo Tourbillon).

Business News: Audemars Piguet’s CEO Francois-Henry Bennahmias Plays The Concept Supersonnerie Live On CNBC

“It’s easily audible across a noisy room, above the sound of normal conversation.” Those were the words used by our editor-in-chief Jack Forster to describe the volume of the Supersonnerie’s chime in his hands-on review of Audemars Piguet’s latest and greatest minute repeater. Well, he wasn’t kidding, and we just got irrefutable proof on live television courtesy of CNBC and AP CEO Francois-Henry Bennahmias.

Hands-On: The Maurice de Mauriac L1, A Customizable High-Design Watch From Zurich

The L1 was originally introduced just before Baselworld 2014, and was a big departure from both the modern sport watch and classic dress watch lines for which Maurice de Mauriac was generally known. There’s a good reason for that: It was designed for the Zurich-based brand by Swiss industrial designer Fabian Schwaerzler. The designer is best known for his chairs and stools, and there’s a pretty good chance that at some point you’ve sat on something designed by Schwaerzler. I’ve always found the look appealing, and now that the watch is available in a few configurations and sizes, I wanted to dig in and see which I liked best.
