Yesterday Richemont’s board of directors met and did some serious planning for the company’s future. The results of the meeting are nothing to scoff at, with a few important executives retiring and a few well-known names likely to climb the ranks in turn. Here’s a breakdown of what was announced and some thoughts on why it might matter to you.

Here are the concrete facts about last night’s gala event in the Lower East Side of New York City, where Hublot and street artist Tristan Eaton unveiled the exceptional Classic Fusion Aerofusion Concrete Jungle watch. Designed by Eaton, one of the most well known muralists in the world, with a permanent collection at the Museum of Modern Art, the new watch represents Hublot’s first foray into concrete. Designed as a tribute to New York City, the
Chopard releases the new L.U.C. GMT One, an ideal traveler’s timepiece with a dual-time function. The watch takes on a classic design with modern proportions, in size and case dimensions. It is both a useful work watch and a handsome timepiece with a well-crafted movement.…
This week, the hunt for vintage watches unveiled some highly unusual finds, the type you almost never see. In that vein, the 1980s Heuer Verona reference 371.213G might not be the hottest Heuer chronograph currently, but it’s nonetheless a real rarity and an exceptional find for Heuer collectors. Here we also have a Zenith Extra that was made for the Canadian railroad in the middle of the 20th century. And, of course, classic chronographs are not forgotten here either – we’ve got a great Mathey-Tissot as well as an appealing Omega De Ville.
In the biggest change to its management in years, Richemont has announced the retirement of its chief executive and chief financial officer, as well as eight members of its board. This represents a generational change for the Swiss luxury conglomerate, owner of brands like Cartier, IWC and Montblanc. The retirees who are in their 50s or 60s […]
Telling you that the watchmaking industry is now facing some troubles won’t be the biggest piece of news you’ll have today. It is now known, the Swiss industry is in tough period, sales are decreasing, profits are going lower and stocks are massively increasing at retailers. This situation seemed to be quite a secret for a year or so, but now, large groups – mainly those listed and that must report to shareholders – are making things clearer and the situation becomes public. As a proof, yesterday Richmont Group, the second largest actor in the field of luxury watchmaking (owner of Cartier, IWC, Jaeger, Montblanc and more) announced declining results, abolished CEO Role and unveiled a major sweeping management overhaul – as IWC’s Kern will become Head of Watchmaking and Montblanc’s Lambert Head of Operations.
The Chopard L.U.C line of high-end mechanical timepieces is well stocked with dress watches and complications, but skimpy on sporty, functional types. That gap is now filled by the new L.U.C GMT One and Time Traveler One, a pair of COSC chronometer-certified travel watches starting at just under US$10,000. A watch showing two time zones simultaneously, the L.U.C […]
If you follow the actuality about watches on a regular basis, you’ve certainly noticed that Seiko – no the smallest company around, to say the least – is moving quite fast these days. The brand has evolved considerably, introducing watches in all categories of price and expanding the higher-end collections, including Grand Seiko of course, but Presage too. We already showed you earlier this week, with the Presage SSA303J1, that value for money and horological content were the motto of the collection. And this is not about to change with this other novelty in the collection, a more luxurious, more refined and more vintage-oriented watch named Seiko Presage SPB041J1… and again, you’ll have a hell of a watch for your money.
After (almost) four weeks with the Seiko Presage give-away, it’s time draw a winner, randomly of course. Keep an eye on you inbox (check the spam folder) because it could just be your lucky day! Now it’s time to move on to the next give-away and we have to thank David Braislford, of Garrick Watches, …
