Vacheron Constantin Introduces the New Harmony Collection of 10 Watches

When Vacheron Constantin celebrated its 260th anniversary last year the Geneva watchmaker introduced the Harmony, a range of cushion-shaped watches that were all limited editions dedicated to the occasion. Now unsurprisingly the Harmony has returned to become part of the regular line-up with minor aesthetic tweaks here and there, with the only exception being the gorgeous Harmony Ultra-Thin Grande Complication […]

Baume & Mercier Introduces Red Gold Perpetual Calendar Powered by Vaucher Movement For US$21,000

The new Clifton Perpetual Calendar from Baume & Mercier is a familiar one, given the popularity of accessibly priced perpetual calendars from the likes Frederique Constant, Montblanc and even Chopard L.U.C. Priced at the equivalent of US$21,000, the Clifton Perpetual Calendar is red gold and a largish 41mm in diameter. With four sub-dials and a symmetrical layout, the […]

20 years of Excellence expressed with Three initials: L.U.C.

The second son of Félicien Chopard, Louis-Ulysse Chopard (L.U.C.)was encouraged by his soil-toiling father to pick up the watchmaking trade. Like most Swiss agrarian communities of the day, the farmers practiced a profession of making movement components in the off-seasons and our young prodigy quickly learned that the ones who would most…

Warm and Bold… Armin Strom introduces its Edge Double Barrel in Rose Gold

While the Armin Strom Edge Double Barrel should not be a stranger to you anymore – as you might have read our extensive review here – it must be admitted that, for the moment, this watch has been mostly playing on black and sporty design clues. The standard edition is indeed entirely black and metallic and the Max Chilton Limited Edition removes a bit of coating on the case and adds some blue accents here and there. But what if you like something more luxurious, warmer, less rugged (and we know that Armin Strom can combines sports and luxury…). The answer is here; the new Armin Strom Edge Double Barrel in rose gold.

MY WEEKEND WITH: The whole Vacheron Constantin Overseas Collection

vc-overseas-lhi-5I remember the first Vacheron Constantin I ever laid eyes on. It was in a magazine for an Australian retailer. It was an Overseas model and it was a chronograph, but thanks to an interesting take on the bezel, it didn’t strike me as ‘just sporty’ like chronos can be. It had an edge to it. Literally. The Maltese cross tips cut out of the polished bezel made it dressy and daring. The backstory told in a full page ad opposite the watch – of a brand founded on an island in the middle of Lake Geneva that’s been in continuous production since 1755 – only added another layer of intrigue. It was almost Da Vinci Code-like in its imagery and storytelling. I was fascinated. Fast forward to 2016 and several of the elements that first introduced me to the brand are in play. I’m on an island. Lord Howe Island. I’m in possession of the brand new Overseas range in its entirety, including all the interchangeable strap options. All that’s missing is a conspiracy theory, and Audrey Tatou, which is a shame. Over the 48 hours we spent on the island my wrist was exclusively dressed by Vacheron Constantin.…

Clerc Hydroscaph GMT Power Reserve Chronometer Watch Review

Over the years, I have made no secret of the fact I am a big fan of GMT complications, even though I do not find myself traveling across time zones much these days (a good thing, in my book). I also have a tendency towards the sportier divers (as do many others), and am intrigued by unique cases and shapes. Wouldn’t you know, there was a watch introduced at Baselworld 2015 that actually touches on all of those differing points? When the opportunity came up to spend some time with the Clerc Hydroscaph GMT Power Reserve Chronometer, I leaped at it without a second thought.

FRIDAY WIND DOWN: 14th October, 2016 – the winners edition

Wind-Down-19-2-16Today’s Wind Down is dedicated to all the winners out there. Maybe you found $2 on the street, maybe you’ve just got a positive attitude, or maybe, just maybe, you’re lucky enough to win a watch. So, take pride in your achievements (be they big or small), have a cold drink and take four minutes and 56 seconds out of your day to enjoy this slice of Swedish victory. What actually mattered Let’s cut to the chase. The lucky entrant in our 2016 Reader Survey is (we’re going to pull the Bandaid off quick here…) Alan from Sydney. Congratulations Alan! *Fireworks, high-fives, fist-bumps, awkward manhugs, cheering, cheersing etc* When I spoke to Alan on Monday he was, how shall we say, shocked to a point of disbelief. For those who missed out on the biscuits this year, be assured, you’re losing to a grateful guy; Alan has never won any sort of competition before, and still can’t quite believe this is happening. Alan, THIS IS HAPPENING. We suspect it will become a little more real when he straps his new Oris on in the next few days. The only question is, which Oris Divers Sixty Five did Alan choose? “Well, initially I thought the…

Found: A Patek Philippe 1463 Chronograph Retailed And Signed By Cartier (The Only Known Piece, And From The Original Family No Less)

If you haven’t noticed, the latest Phillips Geneva catalog is out, and it is, not unsurprisingly, kind of absurd (peep the whole thing here). We’ve already told you they’ll be auctioning off arguably the GOAT in a steel 1518, but there are several other pieces that may get your motor running in a more meaningful way, simply by virtue of you maybe, just maybe, being able to afford them (the 1518 steel should bring in north of $3 million, but I feel it’ll break $5 million, personally). One watch that is indeed still a very expensive watch, but struck my fancy, is another Patek Philippe, and indeed another chronograph – and it has something very special about it too. This is a reference 1463, kind of the vintage Patek chrono in yellow gold, but this one was retailed and signed by Cartier. Oh, and it doesn’t stop there.
