We’re not going to explain in details again and again what we think here, at Monochrome-Watches, of Frédérique Constant. However, we have to say that they create some of the best value for money pieces around, with great classical design and interesting horological content – yes, they really do in-house movements, with watches under 3,000 Euros. That being said, what we’re about to see is another good example of this brand’s production, a watch with superior elegance and manufacture engine. It’s a milestone year for the 4810, as the popular collection celebrates its tenth birthday. To commemorate the big 1-0 Montblanc has released a swathe of new models and limited editions that continue to explore their overarching themes of navigation and exploration. There’s the cruise ship inspired ExoTourbillon Slim, as well as the more accessible 4810 Day-Date. Sitting neatly in between is the Twinfly Chronograph. The Twinfly, first released in 2011, has been a hit for the brand, and we suspect that this updated, somewhat aristocratic travellers watch will be no different. At a glance there’s a lot going on. Not only does the watch display a second time zone via the skeletonized hour hand, but there’s also a 24-hour time display showing the hometime at the top of the dial (in Montblanc’s now characteristic globe motif), there’s also a small seconds counter at six – with a date thrown in for good measure – as well as blue and gold chronograph seconds and minutes hands. When in 2015 Vacheron Constant presented the Harmony, it was already an entire collection, comprising a simple Dual Time, a small size chronograph (women-oriented), a Monopusher Chronograph (the superb 3300), a Tourbillon Chronograph and a stunning ref. 3500 ultra-thin, automatic, split-seconds chronograph. Even if there was no new editions at the 2016 Edition of the SIHH, which was entirely focussed on the Overseas, it’s time now for the Harmony Collection to see evolutions. As a sort of early Pre-SIHH, here are several new Vacheron Constantin Harmony models, including a brand new and elegant Complete Calendar Moonphase and new iterations of existing versions.

There is something intrinsically ornate about annual calendars like the Patek Philippe 5396, an undeniable X factor that seems well-suited to a dressy watch with an old-school charm. Maybe the annual calendar has less to prove than a perpetual calendar, having enough chill to just let February be itself.
It’s Speedy Tuesday! Just recently, we were able to lay our hands on an OMEGA Speedmaster Reduced reference 3510.50 timepiece. This discontinued model Speedmaster is often mistaken for the popular Speedmaster Professional ‘Moonwatch’. If you are not that deeply into Speedmasters and just like the look of the black face tri-compax lay-out Speedmaster, it is easily to fall into the trap that a lot of sellers of these watches (f.i. on eBay) will try to use on you. They will advertise with these watches as ‘Moonwatch’ as well. Although the OMEGA Speedmaster Reduced is a very nice watch, it is not a Moonwatch.
