Bali would not be the first place you have in mind when you think vintage Rolex, yet a week ago 100 of the most hardcore Rolex collectors met there, organized by the Vintage Rolex Asylum, bringing some of the most collectible pieces ever made by the manufacture. Out of the 250-ish watches, you could expect your fair share of flawless Submariner, some actually military-issued, and a significant number of Daytona chronographs with the exotic Paul Newman dial, be that with a stainless steel or a yellow gold case. For many attendants, the highlight of the show was to see one of the three Rolex Cosmograph Yachtmaster, the very same example John Goldberger had shown us on its Talking Watches.
