Editor’s note: For many desirable watches, the ‘waiting list’ is now not even an option. And as for a Patek Philippe Nautilus 5711, it’s well and truly closed, with the announcement this week that it will be discontinued. As a result there’s a good deal of cynicism about the whole concept.
